But the Dutton universe is far from its conclusion as Sheridan has expanded it with multiple spin-off shows. While two prequel shows 1883 and 1923 have already been successful, the Dutton Ranch is reportedly introducing Kurt Russell in a planned sequel spin-off.
The Yellowstone universe has always boasted immense star power with Kevin Costner in the canonical series, Tim McGraw in 1883, and Harrison Ford in 1923. Matthew McConaughey and Michelle Pfeiffer were also reported to join the cast in an upcoming spin-off. While we still do not have any updates about their casting, Kurt Russell has a strong possibility.
Besides the 1883 and 1923 prequels, Taylor Sheridan also expressed plans for a spin-off sequel series 2024 to Yellowstone. According to the latest reports by scooper Jeff Sneider (via JoBlo), Kurt Russell can take charge of the upcoming 2024 show.

It is not yet confirmed which project will be helmed by the Guardians of the Galaxy actor. However, it must be noted that Kurt Russell can be one of the most perfect additions to the Dutton Ranch. With his experience in projects like Bone Tomahawk, The Hateful Eight, and Tombstone, Russell can pull off the Western genre with the desired style.
As we do not have any official update about Russell’s Yellowstone involvement, his appearance can also be expected in the prequel series, 1944. The series set after the events of 1923 can present the Marvel star as another prominent Dutton family member.
On the other hand, the present-day set spin-off titled 6666 has been stuck in development hell for a long time. So it cannot be denied that if the casting goes official, the possibilities are immense for Kurt Russell to lead another era of Yellowstone.
The fans are still unsure if Kevin Costner will make an appearance in the concluding season of the mainline series. It is highly unlikely that Taylor Sheridan will let him return after everything that occurred between the two. Amidst the feud, it was reported that Matthew McConaughey will lead the future of the universe in the sequel spin-off series 2023.

Nevertheless, it is still unclear if the Interstellar fame will join the Taylor Sheridan series as he is waiting for the script. But another Marvel star, Michelle Pfeiffer, was almost said to have closed a deal to lead a new era in the Dutton universe.
According to the Life & Style interview with an insider, the Ant-Man actress was closer to landing a role than McConaughey. While this casting may raise many eyebrows, it must be remembered that nothing officially has been announced yet. With three prominent stars in the mix, it will be interesting to see who takes over the mantle from Kevin Costner to be the next big thing in Yellowstone.
