Winds Of Winter Spoilers Revealed To House Of The Dragon Creator By GRRM

House of the Dragon creator Ryan Condal reveals George R.R. Martin has shared some of what will happen in The Winds of Winter with him.

House of the Dragon creator Ryan Condal has revealed he knows some secrets about the next book in George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones series, The Winds of Winter. House of the Dragon, which premiered in August, is a prequel to Game of Thrones and an adaptation of another of the author’s books, Fire & Blood. The show centers around House Targaryen, which was nearly wiped out before the start of the first book in Martin’s series.

The Winds of Winter has been heavily anticipated since the release of A Dance with Dragons in 2011. While The Winds of Winter is only 75% done, it appears Martin hasn’t been overly stingy on sharing teases, at least when necessary. As reported by EW, Condal appeared virtually at Warner Bros.’ recent Game of Thrones Official Fan Convention, revealing Martin is more than willing to offer certain details about The Winds of Winter. Read Condal’s quote below:

He’s told me things that have, not a direct connection [to House of the Dragon ], but when he’s explaining mythologies and things like that, he’ll just casually mention things. It’s so cool but it’s like, ‘Ah! I just want to read the book.’ So I’m very much looking forward to that as a fan, and I’m a fan of his too. I’m really rooting for him and I want him to get, as he calls it, the monkey off his back.

What We Know About The Winds Of Winter

It is interesting that Martin is willing to share things with Condal not directly tied to House of the Dragon. In the past, the author has been particularly tight-lipped about the details of the book. While Martin told the creators of the Game of Thrones adaptation how his series would end, Condal should, theoretically, have most of the information he needs from Fire & Blood and Martin’s expertise. It shows that Martin may be opening up about the book more, which could be a good sign for The Winds of Winter’s release.

In the over 10-year wait for the book, anticipation for Winds has only grown. With the Starks scattered, Daenerys remaining in Essos, and Jaime Lannister in the clutches of Lady Stoneheart, there will be many questions that Winds of Winter needs to answer — not the least of which is whether Jon Snow will be revived. To make matters more difficult for Martin, the book is expected to be the penultimate in his epic, meaning that it will have to set up some major arcs for the seventh and final book, A Dream of Spring. Given that the Others haven’t even crossed the Wall yet, there will need to be some serious plot developments.

It’s expected that Winds of Winter will be Martin’s longest book yet, so it makes sense the release is taking awhile. Still, given that Dance was released six years after A Feast for Crows, it is taking Martin an unusual amount of time to publish the new book. Martin even had several Winds chapters written prior to the release of Dance, including chapters featuring Sansa, Barristan, Aeron, Arya, Theon, Tyrion, Arianne, and Victarion. The book is expected to bring together the stories of all the POV characters into a single book, something that Martin has not done since A Storm of Swords. The reveal from the House of the Dragon creator should make readers even more excited about The Winds of Winter.
