When The Next TBBT Spinoff May Release

When The Next TBBT Spinoff May Release

The Big Bang Theory‘s next spin-off is suddenly so much more exciting than initially perceived because of Young Sheldon. After six seasons, The Big Bang Theory‘s very first spin-off is on its final stretch, as Sheldon and the Coopers prepare to say goodbye in Young Sheldon season 7. Regardless of what happens to the beloved clan in their final outing, the universe co-created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady is confirmed to continue with a brand new spin-off that is currently being developed by Warner Bros. Television and studio-based Chuck Lorre Prods.

Specific details about the next The Big Bang Theory are being kept under wraps. Since Lorre is likely working with his usual collaborators, their focus is also on wrapping up the shortened Young Sheldon season 7, which will only have 14 episodes instead of the usual 22. Lorre recently commented on the matter, maintaining his stance not to share anything about the new show’s story. Interestingly, he also reveals that the next The Big Bang Theory spin-off may actually land on CBS, which is contrary to previous reports claiming that it will be streaming on Max (formerly HBO Max).

Why The New TBBT Spinoff Is Better Off On CBS Than Max

Regardless of what the story of the new The Big Bang Theory spin-off will be, the project being on CBS bodes well for its future. Lorre has an established professional relationship with the network, having been working with them as a show creator since Frannie’s Turn in 1992. He has spearheaded some of its biggest comedies in the last couple of decades with Dharma & GregTwo and a Half MenThe Big Bang Theory, and Young Sheldon. Aside from his ties to CBS behind-the-scenes, viewers are also used to Lorre-created shows on the station, which makes it easier to establish his new show.

In light of the upcoming end of Young Sheldon, the new The Big Bang Theory universe living in CBS means that not only will it continue the legacy of the franchise, but it has a higher chance of running for far longer.

This doesn’t mean that Lorre can’t launch a show on streaming. He has The Kominsky Method on Netflix and, more recently, Bookie on HBO Max. In terms of longevity, however, streamers are more finicky when renewing shows. Even the most popular series are canceled only after a few seasons, and it’s a rarity to see a comedy go beyond 4 seasons. In light of the upcoming end of Young Sheldon, the new The Big Bang Theory universe living in CBS means that not only will it continue the legacy of the franchise, but it has a higher chance of running for far longer.

Lorre has been clear that the next The Big Bang Theory offshoot is still in its pre-natal stage, which means that it is still in its very early stages of development. The Writers Guild of America strike of 2023 delayed the process, but they are back working on it. Given this, the show may not be ready for broadcast until 2025. As for its narrative, there are several options for the next The Big Bang Theory spin-off’s story. Lorre may elect to bring back some of the Pasadena characters and focus on their arcs. Otherwise, the end of Young Sheldon may function as a storytelling opening for the upcoming show.
