Netflix has just dropped Fuller House season 4, so what’s next for the Tanner sisters, and when can fans expect to watch season 5? The reboot of the late ’80s/early ’90s family-centric sitcom, Full House, has been around since 2016 and has satisfied its old and new fanbase with new stories centering on the two older daughters of Danny Tanner (Bob Saget): DJ Tanner-Fuller (Candace Cameron-Bure) and Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), alongside their long-time friend, Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber).
While Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (who played Michelle Tanner in Full House) remain absent from the show, Netflix was able to coax out all the other original cast members, like Dave Coulier who plays Joey Gladstone, Lori Loughlin who plays Rebecca Donaldson and John Stamos as Jesse Katsopolis. Stamos and Bure also serve as executive producers for the offshoot.
Fuller House Season 5 Hasn’t Been Confirmed By Netflix
When it debuted in 2016, no one really expected for Fuller House to get renewed for a second season – let alone three more. The cast has been vocal about the possibility that Netflix can just decide to cancel the show, and since the streaming platform is notorious for keeping their viewership data private, it’s difficult to gauge how well (or poorly) Netflix Originals are performing. So far, the company has been silent on the future of the Full House spin-off. In the past, Fuller House’s renewal announcement has usually arrived at least a week after the latest outing drops on the platform.
Back in October, however, rumors started swirling that Netflix may be contemplating pulling the plug on Fuller House after season 4. No further details were provided, but this may have something to do with the firing of series creator and spinoff showrunner Jeff Franklin earlier this year, after complaints of vulgar behavior and language within the writer’s room came to light.
Fuller House’s Potential Season 5 Might Arrive Late 2019
Since Netflix hasn’t given a verdict for Fuller House’s future, it’s difficult to gauge when fans can expect a potential fifth season. With a slew of original programming set to debut for the giant streaming platform in the next couple of years, it’s possible that the wait time in between seasons for the company’s in-house projects can be longer depending on people’s response to each shows’ previous outings.
Additionally, since the show boasts a huge cast, it could be difficult to coordinate each others’ schedules to fit in Fuller House’s production timetable. Based on their previous outings, a usual 13-episode outing usually takes four months to film. It’s also important to take into consideration when Netflix will officially order a brand new season (if they do) when predicting when a possible season 5 will be available. The streaming giant has dropped new seasons in February 2016 (season 1) and September 2017 (season 3), although for a family-oriented show like Fuller House, December (season 2 and 4) is a prime month to release the latest episodes.
Fuller House Season 5’s Story
With the show’s future looking bleak, Fuller House season 4 fortunately ended in a satisfying way that could also double as the show’s series finale. Kimmy successfully delivered Stephanie’s baby girl, emotionally capping off the multi-season arc that the show had been treading since season 3. To make things even better, Jimmy (Adam Hagenbuch) got on one knee and asked Stephanie to marry him.
However, should Netflix decide to order one more season of Fuller House, the next installment will most likely revolve around Stephanie being a new mother with DJ and Kimmy guiding her as she goes along this new chapter in her life. With season 4 leaving the girls in stable relationships – DJ and Steve (Scott Weinger) are going strong, Kimmy and Fernando (Juan Pablo Di Pace) are in love more than ever, and Stephanie and Jimmy are newly engaged – it would be nice to see Fuller House ending on the three all getting married.
