A new viral TikTok video highlights Mary’s hypocrisy when dealing with Missy in comparison to Sheldon in Young Sheldon. Despite being regularly ignored, Missy has proven many times that she is the best Cooper. She may not be as smart as Sheldon or as entrepreneurial as Georgie, but the only Cooper daughter is the most well-rounded of Mary and George’s kids. Unfortunately, her mom doesn’t seem to fully appreciate her.

Shared by @xxmary_solosxx on TikTok is a video that shows a couple of instances where Mary becomes more accommodating when dealing with Sheldon but is seemingly indifferent when Missy is involved ahead of the Coopers’ farewell year in Young Sheldon season 7. Watch the clip below:

Young Sheldon season 1 already established that Missy was often sidelined by her mother in favor of Sheldon. The clip features only a few instances that back up her season 6 grievances about feeling left out, considering that Mary continues to prioritize Sheldon over anyone else.

Young Sheldon Explains Missy & Mary’s Big Bang Theory Relationship

The mother and daughter didn’t have the best relationship in The Big Bang Theory. In their final appearance in the nerd-centric sitcom, the pair couldn’t stop bickering, hinting at their tumultuous dynamic. By then, however, Young Sheldon hadn’t fully explored their history. Because of this, their issue was largely ignored, especially since their joint final visit to Pasadena was for Sheldon and Amy’s wedding. The Big Bang Theory focused on that, and rightfully so.

The additional context from Young Sheldon effectively explains why Mary and Missy couldn’t seem to get along in The Big Bang Theory. In addition to that, the impending death of George likely makes their relationship so much worse, considering that Missy mostly gets the attention she deserves from her dad. Losing him means she is losing the only person in the family who doesn’t prioritize Sheldon over her. Granted that Sheldon does need some extra care, it shouldn’t be at the expense of other Cooper kids, and Mary shouldn’t be too obvious about her child preference.

The shortened Young Sheldon season 7 poses some narrative challenges when it comes to delivering a satisfying send-off for the Coopers. While the prequel supposedly exists in the same universe as The Big Bang Theory and Missy being continuously ignored should remain canon, it will ultimately be detrimental to the family’s storytelling. At the very least, it should give the character her due with a proper redemption arc following her erratic behavior in season 6.
