The Hunger Games’ Prequel Without Jennifer Lawrence

‘The Hunger Games’ Director Reveals First Project About The Dark Game World Won’t Have Jennifer Lawrence As Katniss

“The Hunger Games” Prequel
The film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins. This is the first project about the dark game world without the participation of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen. Because, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is set decades before the adventures of the “fire girl”.

The film revolves around the character Coriolanus Snow in his youth, who eventually became the president of Panem. At the age of 18, Snow was chosen to be the mentor to Lucy Grey Baird, a girl from the poor District 12 in The Hunger Games.

Catching Fire and Mockingjay Part 1 & 2 director Francis Lawrence will return to helm the new story, with a script by Oscar-winning screenwriter Michael Arndt.

Will Katniss Everdeen’s grandmother be revealed?
In Entertainment Weekly, director Francis Lawrence shared his thoughts on the characters in the prequel and how they relate to Katniss Everdeen.

“I think Maude Ivory is related to the great Everdeen in every way,” he said.

The character is the cousin of Rachel Zegler’s Lucy Grey Baird, who becomes a tribute from District 12 in The Hunger Games 10. In The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Maude Ivory is played by child actor Vaughan Reilly, who is around 8 or 9 years old.

Many fans of the novel believe that Lucy Grey Baird could be Katniss’ grandmother.

In the trailer for The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Zegler’s character can be heard singing The Hanging Tree, a song that Katniss frequently uses in the series. Francis Lawrence explains this: “Lucy Grey Baird is a performer. After witnessing a man being hanged, she composed The Hanging Tree. Sixty-five years later, we hear Katniss singing it, because it’s a song that’s been passed down through generations of District 12 residents.”
