The cast of Friends reportedly still makes millions from reruns each year

The cast of the hugely popular sitcom Friends reportedly still make millions from the show each year, despite the final episode airing over a decade ago.

According to economics website Marketplace, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and Lisa Kudrow each make around $20 million (about £16 million) annually from the show reruns.

The cast famously negotiated higher pay while the show was airing, after which they each made around $1 million per episode – and Marketplace reports that during these negotiations, the actors also had a clause put into their contracts where they would each also receive two per cent of the syndication income.

These days, the show apparently makes around $1 billion annually from syndication, meaning that each member of the cast takes home about $20 million.

However, it was reported last month in the New York Times that Netflix had spent an astonishing $100 million to keep the show on the streaming platform, $30 million more than they paid for it in 2018, meaning that the cast could be set to take home even bigger pay cheques this year.
