The Big Bang Theory: 10 facts you didn’t know about the series

1. Initial credits vary

The music of the famous credits is almost completely different now. Initially, series creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady chose Thomas Dolby’s “She Blinded Me With Science” for the show’s pilot theme song. But when asked to edit the first episode, they ended up choosing the real song: “The Big Bang Theory Song” performed by the band Barenaked Ladies.

2. One of the characters actually has a PhD

Many characters in the story have earned doctorate degrees. But in real life… Only one person has them. This is actress Mayim Bialik, who plays Amy Farrah Fowler. With an IQ of 163, she earned a doctorate in neuroscience in 2007 at the University of California.

3. The stairs… have the same decoration

They are inevitable in the narrative of the episodes of the series: the stairs separate the ground floor from the third floor of the building where Sheldon, Leonard and Penny live. During these seasons, the elevator breaks down. So the characters spend a lot of time going back and forth from floor to floor talking. But in fact, there is the same context to illustrate the three levels. Only a few decorations change to create the illusion of an endless staircase.

4. The song “Soft Kitty” actually exists

The song that soothes Sheldon when he’s sick, ” Soft Kitty “, exists. The melody originates from a traditional Polish song. For its part, the lyrics come from a poem by Edith Newlin dating back to the 1930s. The poet’s heirs also filed a complaint against Warner Bros for copyright infringement on the text.

5. The actor who plays Sheldon has never seen Star Trek

A surprising anecdote to say the least… Since Star Trek is Sheldon’s favorite series in the series. However, actor Jim Parsons, who plays the character, has never seen the science fiction series.

6. What is Penny’s last name?

Have you noticed that for many seasons of the series, Penny’s last name is never revealed? And according to the actress who plays Kaley Cuoco, that will remain a mystery.

7. The series is almost called by another name

The credits weren’t the only element that was changed at the last minute. Also the name of the series. The original title of the series was actually ” Lenny, Penny and Kenny “. Finally, after careful consideration, “The Big Bang Theory” attracted the producers.

8. Penny and Leonard are a real-life couple

They love each other in the story… But they also love each other in real life. Actors Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki, who play Penny and Leonard, were a couple for two years at the start of the show.

9. Episode titles are not chosen randomly

Except for the first episode, simply called “Pilot”, all episodes of the series are named after a principle, a theory, or a scientific experiment.

10. The series equations are correct

Sheldon and Leonard often find themselves in front of a board full of equations. This may be nonsense… However, the creators of the series wanted each equation to be verified by a scientific consultant, David Saltzberg, who has a PhD in physics.
