In the series “Finding Your Roots” broadcast on PBS, host Henry Louis Gates Jr. revealed that the “Black Widow” actress is a “DNA relative” to actor Michael Douglas, currently 79 years old.
Are you kidding? Wow, that’s wonderful. Okay. This is great, great!”, Douglas exclaimed in surprise.
According to Gates, based on professional genealogical research, Michael Douglas and Scarlett Johansson (39 years old) “share identical DNA branches on four different chromosomes”.
Sharing at the program “Tracing Your Roots”, actor Michael Douglas said he felt closer to his father whom he “had not seen” for a long time.
Gates explained to Douglas that the two actors’ common DNA branches appeared on Scarlett’s maternal family, originating from Jewish communities in Eastern Europe.

The episode “Tracing the Roots” released on April 2 of the series starring Michael Douglas is the penultimate episode of season 10, also featuring Lena Dunham. The writer, director and actress also learned about a famous connection to her ancestors, the fact that she has “at least one common ancestor” with director Larry David.
Finding Your Roots has been revealing surprising genealogies of famous characters since 2012. Among the series’ many discoveries, a standout is Edward Norton’s discovery that, he and Julia Roberts are cousins, Kerry Washington realizes she was conceived through a sperm donor, Bob Odenkirk unearths ties to King Charles & Nathan Lane and Viola Davis finds she is related to Anita Hill.
In February 2024, Gates confided to People magazine about how questions about his own lineage had sparked genealogical sleuthing for many people. “I was crazy when I learned that DNA could be used to trace your ancestors back 500 years,” he shared about the journey to launch the series.
