Sheldon & Amy Have A 2nd Child? New Big Bang Theory Mystery Explained

Young Sheldon season 5, episode 16’s recent Mayim Bialik appearance suggests that Big Bang Theory’s Amy and Sheldon now have more than one child.

Amy’s return on Young Sheldon season 5 seemingly reveals that she and Sheldon (Jim Parsons) have multiple children after The Big Bang TheoryYoung Sheldon has tried to occasionally bring in members of the Pasadena gang from The Big Bang Theory for fun appearances, with Mayim Bialik’s Amy making several cameos via a voice-over. Young Sheldon season 4 premiere revealed that she and Sheldon share a son. Now, it seems like the Coopers have expanded their family as Amy’s season 5 cameo seemed to confirm that Leonard Cooper isn’t an only child.

During the voice-over intro for Young Sheldon season 5, episode 16, “A Suitcase Full of Cash and a Yellow Clown Car,” the couple talks about certain things that affect a relationship, including money. Sheldon then goes on a rant about how Amy took away his comic book allowance because they need to save for their children’s college fund. Though this bit of information is not focused on very much, this was the first suggestion of the pair having more kids other than Leonard Cooper — with Sheldon himself later confirming in season 6 the Cooper family didn’t stop growing after Sheldon and Amy had a baby.

Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory are available to stream on Max.

Young Sheldon Suggests Amy & Sheldon Have More Than One Kid

Sheldon Previously Revealed He Wanted Lots Of Children

The fact that Sheldon and Amy have a baby, and more than once, might have surprised viewers, but it’s in keeping with remarks he’d already made in the continuity of The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon. Sheldon expressed his desire to have a lot of kids on The Big Bang Theory. At one point, he suggested having “five sets of triplets or three sets of quintuplets.”

While this was only an off-hand remark, it established that he always wanted to have a big family. Amy was also eager to have kids, although not as many as her husband. Nonetheless, unlike Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) who were in conflict about this particular aspect of their relationship, the Coopers were both open to having kids. In that regard, having another kid after Leonard Cooper shouldn’t be surprising.

Young Sheldon should reveal more about his siblings moving forward through The Big Bang Theory spin-off’s voice-over. Perhaps, CBS might even be able to update fans about the Hofstadters with a voice cameo from either Penny and Leonard. Young Sheldon has yet to reveal how far along in the future is the show’s narration set. It’s clear that Sheldon is telling the story of his childhood following the events of The Big Bang Theory given the references to their Nobel Prize in Physics win. However, the show has purposefully kept it vague how many years it has been since that monumental achievement.

Young Sheldon Season 6 Revealed More About The Cooper Kids

Sheldon’s Parental Struggles Are Also Hinted At

While season 5 hinted at the possibility of Sheldon and Amy having more kids, season 6 of Young Sheldon confirmed it. In season 6, episode 19, “A New Weather Girl and a Stay at Home Coddler,” Sheldon’s voice-over discusses his father’s prediction that if Sheldon were to have kids, they would eventually blame him for the things wrong in their life. Sheldon shares, “Joke’s on him, I did have kids and joke’s on me, they say it all the time.

It is another bit of confirmation that there are multiple Cooper kids out there. It also gives some hint that Sheldon’s life as a father is not an easy one. While he likely hoped to have a collection of child geniuses like himself, he makes mention of his kids going to skate parks and being rebellious towards him. This makes the idea of Sheldon as a father all the more appealing to see, as the thought of him having to deal with “average” kids is a hilarious concept that could be its own The Big Bang Theory spinoff series once Young Sheldon is wrapped.
