Movie ‘365 Days’ shocks with sex scene

Many body-exposing scenes in Netflix’s “365 Days” have been criticized for being similar to porn.

The Polish work 365 Days (original title: 365 Dni) was released on June 7 on the online movie viewing platform. In the movie, Laura Biel (Anna-Maria Sieklucka) is kidnapped by rich boy Don Massimo Torricelli (Michele Morrone), forced to stay with him for 365 days, but then falls in love with him. The film was in the top 3 most viewed works of the day in the US, Germany, France, the Netherlands and many other countries. In Vietnam, the film ranked second in views on June 11.

Realistic sex scenes that reveal the actors’ bodies and are sometimes sadistic have caused controversy in 365 Days. After just a few minutes, the work has a scene where the male protagonist forces a female flight attendant to have sex. The way the camera is placed and the body exposed makes it feel like the two actors are really close. After that, the work continues to show many revealing scenes, depicting lovemaking, especially the excerpt on Massimo’s yacht.

According to Indiewire, many users post videos on Tik Tok about their reactions when watching movies. On Twitter, the movie caused debate about whether the actors actually had sex on set or not. The crew has not responded to this issue.

In addition, 365 Days was criticized for its character’s psychological development in the style of “Stockholm syndrome” – that is, a hostage develops sympathy for his captor. According to Observer, the film romanticizes kidnapping and forced relationships. The psychological line in the work is judged forcibly, only serving the purpose of having a sexual scene.

Variety gave the film a poor review, with the weak point being the dialogue. Writer Jessica Kiang wrote on this site: “The sex scenes are the best in the movie, mainly because the two actors don’t talk and look beautiful.” Movie Nation site compared the work to a porn film with influences of Fifty Shades of Gray. On IMDb, the film only received a score of 3.8 out of 10, from more than 6,400 votes.

Indiewire believes that 365 Days is widely viewed just because it is curious, not because of its quality. According to this site, Netflix counts a view as when the audience plays the movie for two minutes. Therefore, many people only come to see the controversial sex scenes, but do not watch the entire movie.

The explicit depiction of sex on screen has long caused discussion about the line between art and pornography. In 2015, the movie Love by famous director Gaspar NoĆ© shocked with real sex scenes. Nymphomaniac, Antichrist or Blue Is the Warmest Color are also movies with naked “hot” scenes.
