Lisa Kudrow Attempted To Give A Sweet Answer About This Friends Co-Star, But Ellen Caused Her To Change Her Mind
Lisa Kurdrow played the very funny Phoebe Buffay on the iconic sitcom Friends. The show lasted ten years, from 1994 to 2004. The show made household names out of its cast and helped them develop a lifelong bond with one another.
This bond made it emotionally difficult for the cast to part ways after the finale. Matthew Perry revealed how tough this process was in his memoir. Perry’s death was mourned by the entire cast, including Kudrow, who paid tribute on her Instagram.
While a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2022, Kudrow’s affection for her Friends co-stars was on full display. However, DeGeneres caused Kudrow to rethink one of her answers while playing a game.
Lisa Kudrow Initially Told Ellen She Would Do Anything For Courtney Cox, But Ellen Made Her Change Her Answer
In 2022, Kudrow was a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and played a question game called “Lisa Blanking Kudrow.”
The objective of the game was for DeGeneres to read out sentences to Kudrow, while she filled in the blanks with the first thing that came to mind. The first sentence read, “I had pictures of (blank) on my childhood bedroom walls.” Kudrow quickly answered, “David Cassidy.”
The second sentence read, “I would do anything (blank) asked me to.” Kudrow answered, “Courtney Cox.”
While it was nice to see Kudrow saying something sweet about her former Friends co-star, DeGeneres questioned her quick response.
“Really?” DeGeneres asked. “More so than your child?”
Kudrow responded, “Well, if he asked me something that was not appropriate, I’d have to say no.”
“But if Courtney asked you something that was inappropriate, you’d say yes?” DeGeneres asked.
“Well, she’s an adult and I trust her,” Kudrow said. “Actually, right now my son is an adult and I trust him.”
“Yeah, so what are you saying?” DeGeneres asked.
Kudrow answered with a laugh, “I mean, it’s my son.”
“Alright, so we’ve changed it,” DeGeneres said.
“I would do anything my son asked me to,” Kudrow said, “because I’m a good mom.”

During the 2021 reunion special, behind-the-scenes footage from the finale showed the cast embracing one another after leaving the shot. It was a very emotional moment. After composing themselves, they all gathered in front of the studio audience to take one final bow.
“There was a lot of crying that night,” said LeBlanc, as the cast sat and watched the footage from the final day. Kudrow added, “I don’t know how we got through actual scenes.” As they watched the footage, the cast started tearing up once again.
Matthew Perry Revealed The Cast Agreed To See Each Other Soon After The Finale, Knowing It Wouldn’t Happen
Matthew Perry recently released his memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.” In the book, Perry detailed his struggles with addiction and sobriety. He wrote that his addiction began when he was 24 years old, just as his time on Friends was kicking off.
One of the most shocking accounts to fans of the show was when Perry described his experience during the finale. He wrote that while his cast mates were crying and feeling emotional, he wasn’t experiencing any emotion at all.
“Jennifer Aniston was sobbing — after a while, I was amazed she had any water left in her entire body. Even Matt LeBlanc was crying. But I felt nothing. I couldn’t tell if that was because of the opioid buprenorphine I was taking, or if I was just generally dead inside,” he wrote.
Perry continued, “So, instead of sobbing, I took a slow walk around the stage with my then-girlfriend — also appropriately called Rachel — stage 24 at Warner Bros. in Burbank (a stage that after the show ended would be renamed ‘The Friends Stage.’ We said our various goodbyes, agreeing to see each other soon in the way that people do when they know it’s not true, and then we headed out to my car.”
Lisa Paid Tribute To Matthew Perry On Instagram Following His Death
Perry’s death in 2023 shook the world as well as his former Friends co-stars. Kudrow took to Instagram after his death to reflect and pay tribute.
Kudrow began her post by remembering her first encounters with Perry, particularly during the show’s pilot.
“Shot the pilot, Friends Like Us, got picked up then immediately, we were at the NBC Upfronts,” Kudrow wrote. “Then… You suggested we play poker AND made it so much fun while we initially bonded. Thank you for that.”
