John Krasinski Tells Us Why He Would ‘Absolutely Love to Do’ An Office Reunion

If you’re yearning to go back to Scranton, Pennsylvania and check in with the disgruntled employees of Dunder Mifflin, you’re not alone. Ever since The Office went off the air in 2013, fans have been clamoring for a reboot, while stars of the show have hemmed and hawed about whether such a show could ever get off the ground. In our March issue, John Krasinski dished on a potential reunion, throwing his support behind a future for The Office 2.0.

“The Office was absolutely everything to me,” Krasinski said. “I mean, it is my beginning and my end. I’m pretty sure at the end of my career I’ll still be known for Jim. That was my first experience with Hollywood. It was the first creative family I’ve ever had. In many ways, they will always be the most important people in that most important experience in my career. So yeah, if they did a reunion, I would absolutely love to do it.”

Krasinski also spoke about life after The Office, where he faced challenges scoring other roles.

“The Office was so big at the time, but I think a lot of people were afraid to cast certain cast members in anything else because they were just known as that one thing, which I completely understood,” Krasinski said. “It wasn’t an aggressive anger towards it. It was just a reality that I think I wasn’t, if I’m honest, genuinely prepared for.”

Krasinski isn’t the only one gunning for a reboot. His former co-stars, Angela Kinsey and Ellie Kemper, have thrown their support behind The Office 2.0, with Kinsey going so far as to say, “I would do anything they called me to do.” The remaining hold-outs are Jenna Fischer, who would prefer a special reunion episode, and Steve Carell, who told Esquire back in 2018 that much of what’s depicted on the show is “completely wrong-minded” and bound to come across poorly in a more sensitive cultural climate.

However, with Peacock (NBC’s new streaming service) scheduled to launch later this year and The Office set to cross over from Netflix in January 2021, the time to reboot the show has never been riper. In an interview with Deadline, NBCU’s Bonnie Hammer, chairman of direct-to-consumer and digital enterprises, said, “It is my hope and goal that we do an Office reboot.” Definitive plans remain to be seen, but according to Hammer, high-level conversations are underway.
