“It Was Shocking”: Young Sheldon Star’s “Amazing” Audition Relived By TBBT Creator

The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre recalls the memorable audition from one Young Sheldon star which stood out to him among the rest.

Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre recalled an audition from one star in the sitcom that stood out to him as memorable and engaging. The prequel series follows Sheldon Cooper’s childhood in Texas, showcasing his life prior to the events of the main show. The show has maintained a high level of popularity, partially thanks to its memorable performances.

Speaking with Collider ahead of Young Sheldon season 7, Lorre relived the experience of casting Iain Armitage as the titular character. The creator explained how the audition for Sheldon was written to be hard for a child actor to pull off, making Armitage’s performance all the more impressive. Check out what Lorre had to say below:

I don’t think I would say [I’m] surprised [by the show’s success] because we got hit by lightning when we found Iain [Armitage]. (Co-creator) Steve Molaro and I wrote a very purposefully difficult scene for the young kids to audition with. It was a dense, difficult audition scene, and Iain, in a home audition on his mom’s iPhone killed it. It was shocking. He was amazing. He was a gift from God. Had that not happened, that series doesn’t go forward unless you’re lucky enough to cast a brilliant little boy who’s also a world-class actor.

Why Young Sheldon Season 7 Will End The Series

The final season, which will consist of 14 episodes, will see Armitage’s impressive performance as the title character come to a close.

Lorre’s reminiscence comes before Young Sheldon‘s shortened season 7 ends the show. The final season, which will consist of 14 episodes, will see Armitage’s impressive performance as the title character come to a close. Even so, the comments of the series’ creator underscore how the Sheldon actor brought his character to life through a fittingly engaging performance.

Young Sheldon season 7 will begin on CBS February 15, 2024, airing its final episode on May 16, 2024.

Despite Armitage only showing up as Sheldon for one last batch of episodes, the series will be able to wrap up its storylines in satisfying ways. This includes Sheldon leaving for California to align with his older self in The Big Bang Theory, as well as the aftermath of Meemaw’s house being destroyed. The show may even tackle George’s inevitable death, although it’s unclear if the tragic event will ever be shown

Based on Lorre’s praise and his own acting abilities throughout the show, Armitage will no doubt deliver a final, memorable performance in Young Sheldon season 7. With plenty of comedic moments sure to come, his ability to bring Sheldon to life will be more important than ever before. The bookends for the series can also underscore the success of The Big Bang Theory franchise, even beyond its original show.
