“I would like to have some privacy”: One How I Met Your Mother Star Never Saw it as a Career Decline for Doing Unknown Projects While Cobie Smulders Made MCU Debut

Josh Radnor showcased that pursuing lesser-known projects isn’t a career decline but a choice for creative fulfillment and privacy.

How I Met Your Mother launched the entire ensemble to international fame. Not just that, but it also became a steppingstone for them to transition to high-profile roles and movies. For instance, Cobie Smulders got on board the MCU ship as agent Maria Hill in The Avengers (2015).

Josh Radnor, on the other hand, had a different approach in his cinematic journey after the show’s conclusion in 2014. Further, he desired a more balanced life and a wanted privacy and space.

Josh Radnor Was Satisfied With His Career Trajectory After HIMYM

After the conclusion of the hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother in 2014, it took Josh Radnor another 4 years to get back on the screens in 2018’s Rise. Just a couple of days before its premiere, he sat down with GQ and talked about his life and professional career. The actor detailed how the hit sitcom gave him the freedom to explore other diverse roles and projects after its conclusion.

For instance, he had taken part in Ayad Akhtar’s Tony Award-nominated play Disgraced on Broadway. Further, he also headlined Richard Greenberg’s The Babylon Line at Lincoln Center, among other plays. Not just acting, but Radnor also taught himself how to play guitar and released an album titled Radnor & Lee with Ben Lee.

But despite these achievements, Radnor had not received the same level of appreciation as his other How I Met Your Mother co-stars, who went on to star in projects like The AvengersA Series of Unfortunate Events, and Muppets.

This has further led to several misconceptions about his trajectory, with an online video even suggesting that the actor was not active in TV and movies as he wanted to participate in theater, which was obviously not true. Radnor added that he had turned down several opportunities as he was very selective about the roles he wanted to play. Further, he valued a balanced life and privacy and added:

The idea that I want to be perpetually seen, all the time? No. I actually really don’t. I would like to have some privacy. I would like to have relationships. I would like to be able to go out to dinner with friends and not be hassled. I’m not a jerk. If people want to take a picture with me? If it’s not an inconvenient time, I generally take the picture. But it’s a weird time for that level of visibility. Maybe there is something unconscious, post, How I Met Your Mother, where I wanted to cool it down a little bit.

The actor further reiterated that he’s not running behind high-profile roles and shows. But rather, he wanted to be a part of more meaningful projects that are creative in nature. After these comments, the actor also added that he hopes his statements won’t be misconstrued as complaining.

Further, he’s well aware that there are numerous advantages to the kind of visibility he has as an actor. But it’s also essential to note that there are also numerous frustrations associated with it, something that’s not openly discussed.

Josh Radnor is a married man, and it’s safe to say that his marriage pictures are giving a full-on snowy wonderland vibe. The 49-year-old actor got married to a clinical psychologist named Dr. Jordana Jacobs in January. Further, he shared the happy news with his fans via an Instagram post.
