New trailers for House of the Dragon season 2 are out, further setting up the rivalry between Daemon and Aemond Targaryen. Here’s what it means.
HBO’s new House of the Dragon season 2 trailers have teased a highly anticipated rivalry between Aemond and Daemon Targaryen, but it will take years to develop. The hit Game of Thrones prequel released two trailers for the upcoming release, representing the respective House of the Dragon “Green” and “Black” factions. The opposing trailers offer audiences a chance to choose their own perspective, as the series enforces the idea that neither faction in the upcoming Targaryen civil war is right or wrong.
Matt Smith’s Daemon Targaryen was one of the most captivating characters throughout the show’s first season, with Aemond being introduced later on as his perfect foil. Season 2 will be released on June 16, 2024, and will see them as powerhouses on opposite ends of the Targaryen civil war. Among the House of the Dragon characters, Aemond and Daemon are some of the most valuable assets to their sides, with respected combat abilities and extraordinarily powerful dragons at their disposal.
House Of The Dragon Season 2 Trailer Directly Sets Up Aemond vs. Daemon
The “Official Green Trailer” for House of the Dragon season 2 shows the Green faction’s perspective leading into the war. A brief part of the trailer shows Aemond saying, “My uncle is a challenge I welcome- if he dares face me.” Aemond was established as a late bloomer in House of the Dragon season 1, being the only child not to have a dragon. Though, like many second sons in the world of Westeros, Aemond made strides to establish himself, taming one of the most powerful dragons and making himself a force to be reckoned with.
Aemondn and Daemon have a lot in common, which makes them perfect foes for each other. Daemon is also the younger brother of a king, and season 1 showed him far surpassing his elder sibling in military experience, winning a war in the Stepstones and earning glory that wouldn’t otherwise have been given to him. The trailer continues to tease a growing rivalry between Daemon and Aemond, but it likely won’t come to fruition in season 2.
When Aemond & Daemon Will Fight In House Of The Dragon
George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood is the text that House of the Dragon is based on, and in it, Aemond and Daemon have a climactic duel that impacts the Targaryen civil war. While season 2 trailers tease this moment, it likely won’t happen until the end of season 3 or 4. It’s hard to predict precisely how the HBO adaptation will play out in adapting the books, but their duel on dragonback is perfectly suited for a season climax. House of the Dragon season 2 seems like it will end with the Battle of Rook’s Rest.
