Gal Gadot Wants to Play Smart Cleopatra

Star Gal Gadot said she is aiming for a smart and sexy Cleopatra in the upcoming film about the Egyptian queen.

In an interview with InStyle magazine published on January 4, the Israeli beauty queen said about the project: “I can’t reveal much. However, I assure you that the crew will honor Cleopatra’s story. We not only aim to portray her sexy, overwhelming appearance, but also to show her intelligence, strategic mind and influence on the modern world.”

The film was originally Gal Gadot’s idea, built in the direction of an epic biography. She invited female director Patty Jenkins, who has collaborated on works about the superhero Wonder Woman. Screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis – famous for Terminator Genisys, Alita: Battle Angel – wrote the script, Paramount bought the rights to distribute the film.

Gal Gadot confirmed her participation in the project in October 2020 but was criticized by the public, who said she should have given the role to a black star because the character lives in Africa. The beauty queen argued on the BBC in December 2020: “If you want to be honest, Cleopatra is Macedonian. We looked for an actress of the same nationality for the role but there was no one suitable. At the same time, I was very interested in the character of Cleopatra… On a personal level, I wanted to honor a historical figure that I greatly admire.” Gal Gadot was born in 1985 in Israel, has four bloodlines (Czech, Polish, Austrian and German), and was crowned Miss Israel 2004 at the age of 18. She is known for her role as Gisele in the Fast & Furious series, and is famous for her role as Wonder Woman in the DC superhero cinematic universe.
