The first promo for Netflix’s new original series Fuller House taps into Full House nostalgia and teases that life is full again.
Fuller House Teaser Premiere Date
What started out as an April Fool’s Day prank here at Screen Rant became a reality last year when Netflix announced it had acquired a follow up series to the beloved ’90s sitcom Full House. Titled Fuller House, the show will be a continuation of sorts along the same lines that Girl Meets World was to Boy Meets World. Fuller House will follow the next generation of the Tanner family, now led by eldest daughter D.J. (played by returning star Candace Cameron Bure).
Most of the original cast signed on to the sequel series – the exception being the Olsen twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley, who together played the youngest Tanner daughter Michelle. Last we heard about Fuller House, Netflix had rolled out an official logo that reinterpreted the original. Now the streaming service has released the first teaser as well as an official premiere date for the new series.
The teaser trailer (above) features multiple shots of San Francisco that mirror the opening theme of Full House – including the Golden Gate Bridge, a cable car, and the exterior of the Tanner house – and hints that “Life is Full Again.” Additionally, the promo takes fans through the revamped downstairs of the Tanner home, offering glimpses of the new and improved kitchen and living room, before teasing the returning cast out of frame, ostensibly helping D.J. and her family move into her childhood home. Plus, a new puppy can be seen, reminiscent of the Tanner family golden retriever, Comet.
Netflix also announced the show will premiere its entire 13-episode first season on February 26th, 2016, and released an official synopsis for the series:
In Fuller House, the adventures that began in 1987 on Full House continue, with veterinarian D.J. Tanner-Fuller (Candace Cameron Bure) recently widowed and living in San Francisco. D.J.’s younger sister/aspiring musician Stephanie Tanner (Jodie Sweetin) and D.J.’s lifelong best friend/fellow single mother Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber), along with Kimmy’s feisty teenage daughter Ramona (Soni Nicole Bringas), all move in to help take care of D.J.’s three boys — the rebellious 12-year-old Jackson (Michael Champion), neurotic 7-year-old Max (Elias Harger) and her newborn baby, Tommy Jr (Messitt Twins).
Additionally, John Stamos, Bob Saget, Lori Loughlin, and Dave Coulier were previously announced to return to their roles as Uncle Jesse, Danny Tanner, Aunt Becky, and Uncle Joey respectively. Plus, Scott Weinger was confirmed to reprise his part as Steve Hale, D.J.’s high school boyfriend.
Fuller House Teaser Premiere Date
This first teaser for Fuller House plays heavily into the nostalgia of fans that grew up watching Danny struggle to raise his three daughters with the help of his brother-in-law and old friend. Between the establishing shots of San Francisco almost perfectly mimicking the Full House title credits, the tour through the house, and the off-screen dialogue between the characters, it seems the new Netflix series is relying on that nostalgia to draw in viewers, rather than introduce new fans to the Tanner family.
Of course, whether Fuller House is successful in appealing to both new and old fans remains to be seen. Girl Meets World, for example, is predominantly aimed at a much younger audience than that which watched Boy Meets World, though the new Disney series does offer something to fans of the original by bringing back characters and relationships. However, Fuller House seems to be more all-ages friendly, while still focusing on the core familial relationships of the Tanner extended family. So, it stands to reason that Fuller House could appeal both to fans returning to the series because of their love of Full House as well as viewers looking to watch a new Netflix original. But, we’ll know more once season 1 of Fuller House is released on Netflix in February.
