Fuller House’s series finale featured a handful of surprise cameos from the original series. As expected, the Full House spinoff ended with the triple wedding of DJ (Candace Cameron-Bure), Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), and Kimmy (Andrea Barber) to Steve (Scott Weinger), Jimmy (Adam Hagenbuch), and Fernando (Juan Pablo Di Pace), respectively. The big family event was attended by family, friends, as well as some unexpected characters.
With the midseason finale leaving all three women engaged to their respective boyfriends, Fuller House devoted its final nine episodes building toward their triple wedding. The show featured the brides and grooms getting involved in planning their wedding, although DJ much stayed on top of it. Aside from the typical wedding-related activities, the couples also engaged in a talk show-formatted quiz night. While they planned a more extravagant wedding, unfortunate circumstances forced them to host the event in the Tanner family backyard, which worked perfectly considering that it’s an intimate event.
Admittedly, the Fuller House triple wedding had some notable absences like Aunt Becky (Lori Loughlin), who’s apparently in Nebraska – the show’s way of working around Lori Loughlin’s firing from the series due to her involvement in the national college scandal. Michelle (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen) was also not in the wedding, with the series not even bothering to explain why. Nevertheless, the Full House spinoff made up for it with a string of surprise cameos.
Vicky Larson
Danny’s (Bob Saget) ex-fiancee, Vicky Larson (Gail Edwards) is one of the guests in Fuller House’s triple wedding. This wasn’t the character’s first return on-screen, however, since she left Full House. She makes a cameo in Fuller House’s season 3 finale, “Here Comes The Sun”, after DJ and Stephanie invite her to the house to surprise their dad. The former couple catches up after many years, with Danny inviting Vicky to the Smash Club for his, Jesse (John Stamos), and Joey’s (Dave Coulier) 30th Dad-iversary event. She didn’t return to Fuller House until the wedding, which could be an indication that she and Danny kept contact since they reconnected a couple of years before.
Duane Moffatt
It wasn’t just Danny who had an ex invited to the wedding; even Kimmy (among others) had one of her former boyfriends show-up – Duane Moffatt (Scott Menville). Known for his signature catchphrase, “whatever”, Kimmy dated Duane during her high school years in Full House. Aside from his one-line, he’s passionate about Shakespeare and can recite quotes on the top of his head. Weirdly, Kimmy almost married Duane at the Create-Your-Own-Wedding Chapel. A few years ago, the ex-lovers bumped into each other during their high school reunion, which is possibly why he was invited to this wedding. Before Fuller House wrapped up, Duane, of course, snuck in a final “whatever” to the delight of many Full House fans.
Viper
DJ’s ex-boyfriend, Viper (David Lipper), was also present during the Fuller House series finale. Fans may have easily missed his appearance considering he didn’t have any solo screen time. DJ met Viper while Jesse was holding auditions for his new band back in Full House. He immediately hit it off with her, resulting in the pair dating for a while. They eventually broke break up after DJ decided she didn’t want to date anybody. This isn’t the first time he appeared on the Netflix offshoot, however, as he previously bumped into DJ a few seasons ago. Like Duane, he also attended their high school reunion, where he not only encountered his ex-girlfriend but also his former rival – Nelson Burkhard (Jason Marsden/Hal Sparks), who’s weirdly not in the wedding.
Harry Takayama
Similar to Viper, there’s not much exposure for Harry Takayama (Nathan Nishiguchi) – Stephanie’s adorable grade school classmate/friend from Full House. They did a pretend-wedding just for fun when they’re kids, which he brought up during his first appearance in Fuller House back in season 1. Stephanie thought Harry trying to reconnect with her was a sign he wanted to start a romantic relationship, but that wasn’t the case; he was trying to invite her to his wedding. Harry didn’t return until the Fuller House finale – although it’s difficult to tell whether he returned with his wife or not.
CJ and Rose
Unlike previously mentioned guests in the Fuller House finale, CJ (Virginia Williams) and Rose (McKenna Grace) don’t have any ties to the original show; nonetheless, their appearance in the wedding is still a shock. The mother and daughter debuted in Fuller House season 2, with Steve introducing CJ as his girlfriend. The pair dated for a while and even got engaged to be married while DJ was simultaneously dating Matt (John Brotherton). Unfortunately, Steve and CJ’s relationship ended in an ugly break-up, after the latter decided he couldn’t marry her because he still loved DJ.
While her mother got to know the Tanners, Rose, on the other hand, developed a puppy love kind of relationship with Max. After CJ and Steve’s split, the pair was also forced to cut their affair short. Considering her ugly history with the Tanners, it’s quite odd that CJ was willing to watch her ex-fiancé marry the woman he dumped her for. At one point, CJ was quite bitter over what happened with her and Steve, blaming DJ for it. Granted, they patched things up with a brief adult conversation, but it’s still strange she was open to attending their wedding.
Derek Boyd
Before the wedding, Fuller House already pulled the most surprising guest appearance – Derek Boyd (Derek McIver Ewing) – the Yankee Doodle Boy from Full House and a friend of Michelle’s. When the minister they booked had to cancel at the last minute, Danny offered to take care of the problem, holding auditions for who could marry his two eldest daughters and Kimmy. Among the hopeful is Derek, who tried wooing Danny and Joey (Dave Coulier) by singing a part of his signature song. While he didn’t get the gig, fans were happy to see him again.
Joey McIntyre
Danny passed on Derek to officiate the Fuller House wedding because he had a bigger prospect in mind – Joey McIntyre, the three girls’ ultimate teenage crush (which they mentioned just a few episodes prior) and New Kids on the Block Member. Back in Fuller House season 2, McIntyre appeared alongside his band to the delight of the DJ, Stephanie, and Kimmy. He didn’t bring his band in his last appearance in the show, but that’s fine considering how he factors into the wedding.
According to Cameron-Bure, who also served as a producer Fuller House, she had something to do with asking McIntyre to appear in the finale. “I sat with our showrunners and we talked about who we wanted to officiate the wedding and we wanted a fun surprise guest. I said, ‘Well, if you’re going to ask me or Andrea [Barber], I know hands down we’d love it to be Joey McIntyre.’ So they said, ‘Oh, we think that’d be hysterical.’ So I said, ‘Let me call him.’ And I called Joey,” she recalled (via Insider). Fortunately, McIntyre was willing to do it, leading to his unexpected appearance.
