Netflix has renewed its Full House revival series, Fuller House, for a fifth and final season of sitcom hijinks and nostalgia-infused laughs. The multi-camera sitcom has become a bit of a lost art in recent years, as only a handful can be found on major outlets anymore. In the 1980s and 1990s, the multi-camera comedy was king, especially sitcoms based around a family. The decades gave birth to beloved shows like Growing Pains, Roseanne, Family Ties, The Cosby Show, and perhaps most beloved of all, Full House.
While Full House’s detractors are often quick to point out its flaws – overly sappy music, corny jokes, some questionable acting, etc. – those that watched the Jeff Franklin-created series in its original run don’t let those issues bother them, and continue to enjoy it to this day via streaming, on DVD, and in re-runs. Many younger people also fell in love with Full House thanks to being introduced to their show by their own family, or through said re-runs. With Full House’s rejuvenated fanbase in the age of the internet, it wasn’t too surprising when Netflix opted to greenlight the Fuller House revival series in 2016.
Fuller House focuses on the now grown-up Tanner girls, D.J. (Candace Cameron Bure), Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), and D.J.’s best friend Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber). Stephanie and Kimmy move in with D.J. to help her raise her three children following the death of her husband, in a setup mirroring the original show. Fuller House became a sizeable success for Netflix early on, but now, the streaming giant has announced that the revival’s upcoming fifth season will be its last. The announcement was made via a teaser video for season 5, which can be seen below.
As can be seen at the end of the video above, Fuller House season 5 will arrive on Netflix in fall 2019. It’s unclear how many episodes season 5 will consist of, but 13 seems like a good bet, as seasons 1, 2, and 4 all ran that length. Season 3 was slightly different, releasing 18 episodes in two separate batches. The announcement video features multiple cast members assuring fans that Fuller House has “saved the best for last.”
Fuller House season 5 promises big things ahead for the Tanner/Fuller clan, as season 4 ended with Kimmy giving birth to her brother Jimmy’s baby. As weird as that sounds in the abstract, there’s actually a logical explanation, as Kimmy served as a surrogate mother for Jimmy’s child with Stephanie, who is unable to have kids on her own. With the baby now born, Jimmy has proposed to Stephanie, so one assumes fans will get a fun wedding episode out of the new season as well. It also seems likely that Danny, Jesse, Joey, and Becky will make their returns to send Fuller House off in style.
