Fran Drescher reveals how she really wanted The Nanny to end

The nanny and Mr. Sheffield got their happily ever after, but the actress and co-creator admits that she would have done it very differently if she had it her way.

The Nanny ended in 1999 with Fran Fine and Maxwell Sheffield getting their happily ever after.

They got married, had two children of their own, and came to California to start a new life.

But they weren’t the only ones who got their fairy tale ending. The family butler Niles also married longtime rival C.C. Babcock and they are about to welcome their child.

It’s the ending fans thought they wanted, but co-creator and star Fran Drescher has admitted that it killed the show

The final match is decided by the network
The 60-year-old confessed that she would have written a very different series finale.

“I would have written a great season finale, but without changing the dynamic of the relationship [between Fran and Maxwell],” she told news.com.au.

“So the movie was supposed to end with her becoming the kids’ nanny and him being her boss but they both share a certain attraction that never ends,” she explains. recognizable”.

But it wasn’t her decision and she admitted that she would have preferred the show to have ended differently.

“That was dictated to us by the network — let [Fran and Maxwell] get married and hope they can get a preseason and a ratings boost. It wasn’t really our choice,” Fran said.

Even Fran has her doubts about the reboot
In recent weeks, rumors of a Nanny reboot have spread, but even Fran is wary about how it will work.

“It’s hard to reboot the show because it’s not ‘The Nanny’ anymore. They get married, have kids… so you know, 20 years later, the characters will be the same,” she explained.

Daniel Davis, who plays Niles on the hit series, feels the same way.

In late 2016, he told news.com.au that the character’s love story had never made sense to him.

“Honestly, it’s the only part I’ve never bought,” he admits.

“C.C. and I was so tired – I didn’t believe we would get married. But I had to play it, because that’s what they wrote… I don’t think I’ve ever expressed that to anyone before!” he added.

“We are working on a very large project”
But just last week, the actress told Entertainment Tonight that she had been in talks with her ex-husband and The Nanny co-creator Peter Jacobson about a series reboot.

“We’re talking about it. Peter and I were talking about it,” Fran told the publication.

“We are working on a very large project. It will be interesting for the fans, but I’m not allowed to announce it yet. But it will be huge,” she explained.

A lot of fans want to see the reboot air, but with conflicting reports, we’ll have to wait for it to get the green light.
