Fran Drescher remembers the time she made Princess Diana laugh

Fran Drescher has made many celebrities laugh over the years, but she’s especially proud of the impact she once had on a member of the British royal family.

In a new interview with Marie Claire, the 63-year-old recalls the time she attended the 1995 CFDA Awards and had the opportunity to meet Princess Diana.

The actor was lucky enough to attend the cocktail party organized by the Princess of Wales for the presenters and winners, and she did not miss the opportunity to introduce herself.

“Those were people close to the wall, and she was standing in the center, with a roped-off area. … (I told my manager) ‘I’m not going to come this close and not see her.’ So I said, ‘Sorry, sorry, excuse me,’ and everyone got out of my way,” she recalled.

When it came time for Drescher to appear at the awards ceremony, she took creative liberties and decided to entertain the princess and make up a funny story about their meeting. “We happened to be wearing Mr. Blackwell’s best and worst clothes list (that year). I said (on stage), ‘I met the princess and I told her, “Princess , we were both on Mr. Blackwell’s list.” And she said, “Yes, but I wore the best suit, and you wore the worst suit.” And I said, “But you had Princess Margaret was on my list, and I had Demi and Madonna on my list. You got the wrong list, Princess,” she recalled.

Drescher was happy that the princess found the story quite intriguing.
Drescher, who starred in the hit sitcom “The Nanny,” has many stories like this one, and she’s happy to share another one that’s just as interesting. The year was 1999 and somehow the actor ended up in a stretch limo with Jennifer Lopez, Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Cameron Diaz and Edward Norton as they went from a Miami “disco” to Lenny Kravitz’s house.

“Lenny said, ‘Oh, you know, we should all go back to my house, but how can we get out of here? And who has a car?’ And I said, ‘I have a car! We can all fit into it.” The whole crowd and my girlfriends poured into my car. This is the night we keep talking about,” she said.
