Daniel Davis talks about The Nanny and what a spinoff with Niles and CC Babcock would look like

American Daniel Davis played the comedy character for six seasons – helping put the show at the top of must-watch lists around the world.

“I think I’m a funny guy and quick-witted,” Davis said.

“I really like this type of comedy because I have done a lot of theater and somehow I always get cast in British roles even though I was born and raised in Arkansas.

“But I developed this knack for voices along the way.

“But one of the things they thought was that my British accent – which was fake – sounded more authentic than Roddy McDowell, so that also helped me get the part.”

“I just think it was one of those odd choices they make sometimes to end things when the season is coming to an end,” Davis said.

“We have been oil and water for too long.
“I didn’t think it was a meaningful match for me at the time.

“I think if we were really serious about getting married, maybe as soon as we got on the plane to LA we would have realized it was a bad idea.

“I never believed in it. But they pay you to do it so that’s what I did.”

Dreaming of a spin-off
That said, Daniel believes these two characters would be great in the spin-off series.

“I wish that would happen,” Davis said.

“Imagine me at the nursing home with Mrs. Babcock to tease. I wish they would (due to the spin-off).
“When we did the table read, there was a lot of fan reaction with people saying, ‘Why don’t these two do their own show somewhere?’

“I couldn’t agree more and think it still works. And if that means we’re married, I’ll marry Lauren Lane.”

Imagine a reboot in 2020
“I think The Nanny is going to be a different setting now because when we did the table read, we realized that all the kids are adults now,” Davis said.

“So it will be about Nanny and Mr Sheffield as grandparents, and Niles and CC are said to be pregnant when the show ends.

“It would be The Brady Bunch meets Facts of Life. It will be crazy because there will be so many actors.”
