When a friendship has lasted years, it can get to the point where you have so many inside jokes together that you don’t even remember where they came from. That’s the case when it comes to Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox’s decades-long friendship. On Thursday, Feb. 11, Cox wished Aniston a happy 52nd birthday on Instagram and used the nickname whose origin is totally lost to time.

“Happy Birthday Jenny Louise!” Cox wrote on Instagram. “We’ve known each other so long I don’t even remember why I call you that. I love you!” In case you’re wondering, Aniston’s actual middle name is Joanna, so that doesn’t explain it.

Last year, Cox also wished Aniston a happy birthday on Instagram. That time, she posted a photo of herself dressing up as her buddy, wearing similar glasses holding a dark blonde wig on her head. “No matter how hard you might try… there’s only one Jennifer Aniston,” she wrote. “Happy birthday my dear friend @jenniferaniston! I love you!”

For Cox’s 56th birthday in June 2020, Aniston made four Instagram Story posts featuring photos of Cox and of the two of them together. “Happy birthday to this amazing human,” she wrote on one image. On another, she shared her nickname for Cox, writing, “I love you, CC.” The last post showed them in character as Rachel and Monica on Friends, painting each others’ nails.

They’ve been known to play pool together… with varying degrees of success.

In August 2020, Cox posted a video of herself and Aniston playing pool on Instagram. Cox plays masterfully, followed by a long montage of Aniston not being able to hit a single ball until the very end. Cox made a reference to one of Chandler’s famous lines from Friends in the caption, writing, “I may have had a good night…but could my friend BE any cuter?”
