Charles Shaughnessy opens up about his “strange” goodbye to GH

Victor’s death at GENERAL HOSPITAL is the climax of an epic story in which the supervillain tries to save the world by eliminating half the population and the good guys track him down to Greenland to stop it. him at any cost. And Cassadine makes a big splash when WBS calls in a drone strike that takes out the Haunted Star and everyone on board!

However, behind the scenes, the real farewell of the portrait of Charles Shaughnessy to the series where he played Victor since September 2021 was not so dramatic. “It was a little strange because I was almost finished the day we did the scene where Victor dies in the body bag, right before we took a two-week break [in production],” he revealed to Soap Opera Digest. “But it wasn’t really my goodbye because I knew I’d be back to shoot Victor [reading his will]. So everyone was asking, ‘Is this your last day?’” he continued. “And I thought, ‘Actually, I’ll come back after the break.’ ‘Oh, good! Then we’ll say goodbye.’” Unfortunately, as GH continued production and Shaughnessy reported to the studio to record his final scenes as Victor shared his last will and testament on video, there was hardly anyone to say goodbye to!

“When I came back, my scenes were at the end of the day and it was just me standing in front of the camera reading my will,” he admitted. “I wasn’t even called until 6 p.m. So I had to say goodbye to a few people, but the vast majority had already left for the day!”

However, as evidenced by the recent return of Constance Towers as Helena Cassadine in this same storyline, dead does not mean gone forever in Port Charles! “I hope I see everyone again soon,” Shaughnessy predicted.
