A Ranking of the Best ‘The Office’ Halloween Episodes

A Ranking of the Best ‘The Office’ Halloween Episodes

There’s no shortage of Halloween movies you can watch whenever the mood strikes (hey, for some, Halloween is a lifestyle that’s enjoyed all year ’round). But when you think of truly great Halloween TV episodes, there’s only one show that never missed: The Office. In fact, out of the nine seasons it was on the air, Michael, Dwight, Jim, Pam and the rest of the Dunder Mifflin crew produced six hilarious Halloween-themed episodes that cannot be match by other series.

However, when pinned against each other, which The Office Halloween episode reigns supreme? Well, we took a stab at ranking them from worst to best. Of course, this is just our opinion, and “worst” really means “least best” here. Perhaps Dwight dressing up as Sarah Kerrigan is your go-to, or maybe you can’t get enough of Creed as the Joker. So as you scroll through our list, be sure to drop a comment below to let us know how you would rank each episode.

If you want to watch them in order vs. by ranking, here’s how:

Season 2, Episode 5: “Halloween”
Season 5, Episode 5: “Employee Transfer”
Season 6, Episode 8: “Koi Pond”
Season 7, Episode 6: “Costume Contest”
Season 8, Episode 5: “Spooked”
Season 9, Episode 5: “Here Comes Treble”

And if you’re looking for some easy TV and movie-inspired character costumes, know that you can’t go wrong with any of these DIY Office looks.

6.”Employee Transfer” Season 5, Episode 5

There’s a lot to unpack in this episode. For starters, Creed, Kevin, and Dwight all dress up as the Joker from The Dark Knight. Then there’s Michael and Holly, who go their separate ways after ending their romantic fling. The best part about this episode? The intense and wonderfully random showdown between Dwight and Andy over Cornell and beets (because, why not?).

5.”Here Comes Treble” Season 9, Episode 5

Things don’t go quite as planned when Andy invites his Cornell a cappella group to perform at the office’s Halloween party. And then there’s Jim, who, while at his new job, gets into hot water after offering investors $10,000 more than what he and Pam agreed on.

4. “Koi Pond” Season 6, Episode 8

After Michael trips and falls into a koi pond while at a client meeting, he gets made fun of back at Dunder Mifflin. Later on, it’s revealed that Jim could’ve prevented his boss’s fall, which makes Michael upset. On the other end of the office, Pam and Andy are sent on cold calls and end up posing as a married couple to try to land a sale.

3.”Spooked” Season 8, Episode 5

Andy and Erin hit a rough patch in their relationship after Erin is tasked with setting up the office Halloween party. Beyond that quarrel, Jim and Pam have an ongoing argument about whether ghosts are real, and Dwight dresses up as Sarah Kerrigan from StarCraft, which confuses everyone. The episode also features a cameo from James Spader, who plays Robert California, the former CEO of a company who bought out Dunder Mifflin.

2. “Costume Contest” Season 7, Episode 6

The office gets extra competitive over a Halloween costume contest when the prize is announced as a Scranton-area coupon book (everyone thinks it’s worth $15,000). Throughout the day, various people go home and come back with more creative costumes in an effort to win the prize. At the same time, Michael and Darryl get into it when Darryl pitches an idea to Gabe without telling Michael about it. If anything, this episode is worth watching for the costume changes alone (but especially to see Jim and little Cece dressed as Popeye and Swee’Pea at the end).

1.”Halloween” Season 2, Episode 5

Michael Scott has been sitting on the mandate that he must fire one of his employees by the end of the month. His procrastination means he now must be the bearer of bad news on Halloween. Meanwhile, Jim decides to mess with Dwight and gives him a fake job reference from Michael. Without giving too much away, the episode ends in complete chaos, as Michael makes his final decision and the fired employee seeks revenge on the Scranton-branch boss.
