Malcolm-Jamal Warner on ‘The Cosby Show’ Being Pulled Off the Air: Woody Allen, Roman Polanski and Stephen Collins Are Still ‘Celebrated’

Cosby star Malcolm-Jamal Warner has been careful to neither defend nor disavow TV dad Bill Cosby as more than 50 women accuse him of sexual assault.

But the People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story actor is concerned about the legacy of the sitcom, which was groundbreaking for the black community – and suggests Hollywood’s response to Cosby’s scandal is hypocritical.

In a sneak peek at his Monday appearance on The Real, Warner discusses networks pulling The Cosby Show from their programming.

“I feel several different ways,” says Warner, 45. “One, because the show was taken off the air, it’s literally taking money out of my pocket. So I got my own personal feelings about that, because it personally affects me. But even outside of that, you know, you just look at just how the media is playing this whole thing out. And I can’t help but think about Woody Allen, Roman Polanski, Stephen Collins.”

Acclaimed director Polanski, now 82, fled the United States for France in 1977 after pleading guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with 13-year-old model Samantha Geimer. Allen, 80, made headlines by marrying ex-girlfriend Mia Farrow‘s adoptive daughter Soon-Yi Previn, 45, and his adoptive daughter Dylan Farrow has alleged he molested her as a child. He has vehemently denied her claim and continues to direct star-studded films, recently casting Miley Cyrus for his upcoming Amazon series.

As for Collins? The 7th Heaven patriarch confessed to inappropriate sexual conduct with three female minors in 2014, later revealing an older woman had “repeatedly exposed herself” to him as an adolescent.

“It’s very clear the crimes they’ve committed, but there’s no one that, you know, has been calling for Woody’s movies to be pulled off the air,” Warner says. “Roman Polanski is still celebrated. Stephen Collins’ show still comes on. So it’s just interesting how it’s very unbalanced. They were trying to take Mr. Cosby’s star off the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And I am in no position to defend him, because I can’t, but nor will I throw him under the bus.”
