Kat Dennings recalls hilarious audition moment with Nicolas Cage

Kat Dennings recalled a hilarious audition with Nicolas Cage in which he refused to restrain her in a dramatic scene.

Guess he didn’t want to make her feel caged in.

Nicolas Cage might be loony, but he definitely isn’t handsy. Actress Kat Dennings recalled an audition where she had to mime escaping from Cage after the Oscar winner refused to touch her out of respect.

“He was so respectful,” the “WandaVision” star, 34, told Variety of the bizarre audition, which she dubbed one of the “craziest and most memorable” experiences of her life. Dennings refused to name the specific film, only disclosing that it was “very dramatic” and had a “hugely famous director.”

The scene she was auditioning for entailed the actress trying to escape the other character, played by Cage, who was supposed to physically restrain her.

However, while Dennings was ready “to get into, like, the physicality of the scene,” she realized pretty quickly that the 57-year-old “Face/Off” actor wasn’t going to touch her, or even get near her.

“He was at the other end of the room, which seemed to be his choice,” said Dennings, who was reportedly “pretty young” at the time.

As a result, she was forced to improvise. “I was like, ‘I’m going to be miming this,’ ” the bewildered “House Bunny” actress recounted of pretend-fleeing from Cage. “So a scene where I am asking to be let go of and physically wriggling out of this man’s grip became a miming session.”

However, while she was initially baffled by the Razzie winner‘s hands-off approach, Dennings said in retrospect, “I understand and I respect that the actor made that decision.”

“I’m actually really grateful for that experience just because I wanted to be in a room with Nicolas Cage,” Dennings said of the “Adaptation” star, who is reportedly one of her favorite actors. “But what’s nice is that he was so respectful, and I think that might have been where it was coming from like, I’m a young girl, so he didn’t want to physically touch me and make me uncomfortable. I appreciate it. I really do.”

Cage is currently hosting Netflix’s “History of Swear Words,” a documentary series on the origins of various curse words.
