‘The Office’ star Rainn Wilson received a touching note at Portland International Airport

The Office

A note a flight attendant gave to Rainn Wilson while “The Office” star was at the Portland International Airport has been getting attention across the country. Wilson, best known for his role as Dwight Schrute in the classic comedy series, came to Portland for a Jan. 13 appearance at the Fan Expo Portland event.

In an interview with The Oregonian/OregonLive prior to his Portland visit, Wilson said that even though he has played many roles in his career, the majority of people at fan conventions who come to see him are fans of “The Office,” which ran from 2005 to 2013 on NBC and is streaming on Peacock.

“The thing I hear over and over again is how much that show meant to people,” Wilson told The Oregonian/OregonLive.

The accuracy of that statement was reflected in a post Wilson shared on social media, on Jan. 19. The post features a handwritten note on a napkin that says, “‘The Office’ got me through some of the darkest days of my life. I can’t thank you enough for that. Sincerely, Melanie (Alaska flight attendant).”

In the post, Wilson wrote, “I didn’t even see who dropped this on my lap at the PDX airport, but I greatly appreciate the sentiment, flight attendant Melanie of Alaska Airlines. So humbled to be a part of a show that affected, touched, comforted and inspired. And continues to do so!“

Wilson went on to write, “A continuous Thank you to the whole ‘Office’ family, cast, writers, crew and especially AUDIENCE! (Note: this is not an open invitation to give me notes on napkins!)”
