It’s been seven years since Michael Scott bid a tearful goodbye to Dunder Mifflin during The Office’s seventh season.

The episode ‘Goodbye, Michael’ was emotional for viewers, but one scene that has forever stuck with fans is when Pam (Jenna Fischer) bid farewell to her boss Michael (Steve Carell).

In the episode, Michael waits for Pam, but she goes to see a movie and doesn’t realise Michael is leaving. Michael ends up departing for the airport without saying goodbye to her, but before boarding his plane he realises how much he’ll miss Pam.

When Pam returns to the office she is told that Michael has already left. So she dashes to the airport and, luckily, manages to find him in the terminal to say a proper farewell.

But as Michael and Pam have removed their microphones before going through the security check, the two then share a conversation that wasn’t heard by viewers.

The exchange left Pam teary-eyed and viewers wondering what was said.

In a fan Q&A on Instagram Live earlier this week, Fischer finally gave fans a bit more information about the conversation – revealing she spoke to Carell as herself rather than as Pam, reflecting on how much he and the show meant to her.

“That was me talking to Steve,” she told her followers, via Entertainment Weekly.

“I told him all the ways I was going to miss him when we left our show. Those were real tears and a real goodbye. That was a really emotional scene.”
