If there had been an award for the sweetest speech at last night’s Critics’ Choice Awards, it is almost certain that John Krasinski would have taken it home, along with the prize for best sci-fi/horror movie. Joined on stage to accept the accolade for A Quiet Place by the film’s crew and cast, including his wife Emily Blunt, the screenwriter and director turned the attention to his family.

“Thank you so much. Wow. I don’t know what’s going on right now. I blacked out about six seconds ago. I want to say thank you to all the incredible kindness that has been shown to this film,” he addressed the audience. “I got to make a movie about a love story and a love letter to my kids. I got to do it with the love of my life by my side, so I’m pretty sure it doesn’t get much better than that. Thank you so much.”

The Hollywood duo also complemented each other sartorially at the ceremony, with Blunt wearing an embellished white Grecian gown by Prada while Krasinski chose a white jacket over a black suit. In the film, the couple – who married in 2010 and have two daughters – play a husband and wife trying to protect their children in a post-apocalyptic world haunted by blind monsters with acute hearing.
