Full House Star Reveals Secret Of Sitcom Family’s On-Screen Bond

Full House star Dave Coulier reveals the secret behind the cast’s performance of an on-screen family bond, which powered the sitcom’s success.

Full House star Dave Coulier reveals the secret behind the cast’s on-screen family bond. The ’80s/’90s family sitcom wasn’t critically acclaimed, but it became really popular thanks to its relatable characters, not to mention its grounded narrative. Coulier played Joey in the original series for eight seasons, and like the rest of the cast, he reprised his role in the Netflix spinoff Fuller House, although in just a recurring capacity.

Full House and Fuller House are often compared with each other because they’re part of the same continuity. They also have very similar premises. While fans have various opinions about which show did better, there’s one thing the comedies were able to maintain, and that’s the clear bond among the cast. This effectively helps the sitcoms better tell their stories, as they both focus on a single, extended family.

Having been part of Full House and Fuller House, Coulier reveals the secret to the cast’s palpable on-screen bond. Speaking with Closer Weekly to promote his latest show, Live+Local, Coulier discusses his experience being part of the Full House franchise. He chalks the Tanners’ bond to the cast’s chemistry in real life. He says that, just like their characters, they really love each other, and that is something that cannot be faked. Read Coulier’s full quote below:

We really had that chemistry from the starting gate. It was just incredible. We just loved each other through all kinds of situations. We’ve gone through marriages and divorces, births and deaths, pickups and cancellations, and then another pickup and another cancellation. We’ve been through so many different things together, and we’ve remained really close. You can’t fake that kind of chemistry. — either you have that or you don’t.

The Full House cast all together

Many ensemble casts claim the same thing, especially those who appeared in successful and long-running shows. However, the special thing about the Full House actors is that they continue to prove that they truly are like a family in real life. Just this summer, most of them reunited to attend Jodie Sweeting’s wedding. Before that, Lori Loughlin joined John Stamos on stage during his performance with The Beach Boys. At this point, Fuller House has already been over for more than two years, and everyone is doing their respective work, but they still find a way to spend time with each other.

It hasn’t been all good for the Full House cast, however, as they suffered a big loss with the unexpected death of Danny Tanner actor Bob Saget earlier this year. Most actors who have worked with the host and comedian have nothing but great things to say about him, but Coulier especially treated Saget as a brother. Despite this tragedy, however, he and the majority of the sitcom’s cast are game to work again together for a potential Fuller House spinoff if they are given the chance. This proves yet again that they do like each other, as they are all onboard to star in another sitcom for the third time.
