“I Was Angry”: John Stamos Gets Candid About Olsen Twins Not Returning For Fuller House

Full House star John Stamos admits that he was actually angry when he learned that the Olsen Twins were not returning for Fuller House.

When the Olsen twins didn’t come back for the Full House spinoff Fuller House, John Stamos (Jesse Katsopolis) revealed he was upset with their decision. The twins first appeared in Full House when they were six months old, igniting a lifelong affiliation with the show. While they featured in Full House until the show ended in 1995, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen chose not to appear in the 2016 spinoff and continuation, which ignited fervent speculation about on-set issues. While Stamos initially respected their decision, he now gets honest about his real reaction to their nonattendance.

During an appearance on the And That’s What You REALLY Missed podcast, Stamos admitted that he was initially very upset about the twins refusing to take part in the show. Check out his quote below:

“[Bob Saget] was very instrumental in keeping us all together. The twins moved to New York. And I gotta tell you, one of the only good thing to come out of Bob’s, well… Mary-Kate and Ashley, we didn’t see them much. I mean, we stayed in touch a little bit but Bob really did. And they were so great. You hear rumors, ‘Oh, they hated their childhood or they hated being on the show or whatever.’

When I did Fuller House they didn’t wanna come back. And I was angry for a minute. And that got out. But they were, like, ‘We loved our childhood. We loved being with you. We miss Bob.’ They came over to my house. They brought a pork chop and sage. I don’t know why, but thank you? It was a frozen pork chop, so that was really nice. So we stayed very close.”

Why Didn’t The Olsen Twins Return For Fuller House?

Fuller House attempted to recruit the Olsen twins for the show, but Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen opted not to return. The two have been focusing on an incredibly successful fashion designing business for years, so expecting them to set it aside to focus on Fuller House was a long shot. However, there was still potential for a reprisal had it not been for the apparent miscommunication.

The twins stated they were not personally approached to appear in Fuller House. Instead, they were contacted through their agent, which alienated the twins. It also didn’t help that they were only eight years old when Fuller House ended, meaning they did not share the fierce cast connection that many other actors enjoyed in the series. Nevertheless, fellow former co-star Jodie Sweetin defended the twins’ absence on those same grounds.

Stamos has been candid about his relationship with the Olsen twins, even revealing that he had gotten them fired temporarily from the show. However, their friendship was reportedly soured after Stamos called the Olsen twins’ story “bullsh*t” when they remarked they learned about the spinoff on the spot. However, Stamos stated the Fuller House twin controversy was “blown out of proportion” and complimented the twins’ career after Full House. Michelle may not have been able to return for Fuller House, but at least the twins are doing well and have rebuilt their relationship with John Stamos.
