Rachel, Monica, or Phoebe: which ‘Friends’ girl are you, according to your style?

“It’s happening…” It’s the confirmation Friends fans have been waiting for since the iconic series aired its final episode 16 years ago, made by the six key actors in the series on each of their personal Instagram accounts.

According to Variety, the Friends cast will reunite for an exclusive, unscripted special on the steaming platform HBO Max. All six Friends, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer will return for the episode. Kevin Reilly, the chief content officer at HBO Max called the move, “guess you could call this the one where they all got back together.”

The wardrobes of the three leading ladies in the series, Rachel, Monica, and Phoebe, is the epitome of ’90s style. From Rachel’s evolution from a spoiled daddy’s girl to a walking Ralph Lauren advertisement and Monica’s thought-out basics to Phoebe’s eclectic taste, all three women had distinctive styles that grew with their characters over the show’s 10 seasons.

So, between Rachel, Monica, or Phoebe: which ‘Friends’ girl are you, according to your style?

Rachel Green

At the beginning of the series, Rachel’s style was pure ’90s schoolgirl: plaid mini skirts, cropped sweaters, opaque tights, and an enviable collection of denim overalls. Over the 10 years Friends aired though, Rachel Green grew into a chic working New Yorker and her style essentials transitioned into a stylish assemblage of blazers, slip dresses, and knee-high boots. In true Rachel style, however, a form-fitting sweater was never too far out of reach.

Monica Geller

Independent, determined, and loyal, Monica Geller’s well-thought-out and practical style suits her go-getter personality. Her signature style of stone-wash jeans, plaid flannels, and basic t-shirts have stood the test of time and is a testament to the tomboy girls of the ’90s. While the earlier Friends seasons paired her mom-cut jeans with a series of crop tops and tanks, Monica in the later seasons opted for looser blouse styles, cardigans, and scarf accessories.

Phoebe Buffay

Phoebe Buffay’s style is nothing if not unique. The musical, bohemian, and whimsical third female lead doesn’t let fashion rules dictate her sartorial choices. Mixing prints and textures, colors and cuts, Phoebe wears what makes her feel good. While Phoebe’s style does tone down a bit over the course of the 10 Friends seasons, the Smelly Cat singer isn’t one to shy away from a bit of color and pattern.
