Gal Gadot’s live-action Snow White: Audiences only care about the Evil Queen

The trailer for the live-action “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” was criticized because of the female lead Rachel Zegler. The evil queen played by Gal Gadot was praised by audiences as being more prominent than Snow White.

The live-action version of the animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs released its trailer on August 10. Princess Snow White played by Rachel Zegler and the Evil Queen played by Gal Gadot both appeared in the trailer.

With Snow White’s signature bob hairstyle, the princess is surrounded by seven dwarfs. The main plot details are all in the trailer, from the poisoned apple, the Queen talking to the magic mirror, turning into an old woman, the meeting between the prince and Snow White, to the incident when the princess got lost in the deep forest.

Directed by Marc Webb, who made a name for himself with The Amazing Spider-Man, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a reimagining of the 1937 animated film. The original film focuses on Snow White, who must flee the castle after her stepmother becomes so jealous of her beauty that she orders the Huntsman to kill her. The Huntsman can’t bear to harm the princess and lets Snow White escape to a cottage deep in the woods, where she finds the seven dwarfs.

Discovering that Snow White is still alive, the Evil Queen arrives at the cottage and gives her a poisoned apple. After being poisoned, Snow White is later awakened by the prince’s kiss of true love.

The trailer continues to receive criticism because audiences are not satisfied with the character of Snow White played by black actress Rachel Zegler. Viewers believe that Rachel Zegler goes against the original, destroying the image of Snow White, and she is completely overshadowed by Gal Gadot’s appearance as the Queen.

“There is no reason for the Evil Queen to be jealous of Snow White”, “Gal Gadot carries this movie. She makes a difference in just 10 short seconds”, “When the magic mirror says Snow White is the most beautiful, I think everyone in the theater will say this mirror is broken”, “If I were the Queen’s courtier, I would advise her to buy a new mirror that doesn’t lie”, “This is a movie that many people cheer for the villain”… Audiences commented on the live-action version of Snow White after Disney released the trailer.

In the live-action version, songs from the original animated film will be introduced, in addition to many new compositions released.

When asked about the “modern highlights” of the live-action film, Zegler asnd Gadot both said that Snow White will not be saved by the prince.

“Snow White does not dream of true love. She wants to be a leader, she knows she can be, her late father encouraged her that she can absolutely achieve it if she is fearless, fair, brave and honest. It’s an incredible story for young people to see themselves in,” Zegler said.

As for Gadot, she said she was lucky to play a role that is very different from her previous familiar image. “I enjoyed every minute of doing this movie.”

The film was originally scheduled for release on March 22, but was postponed to March 21, 2025 due to the Hollywood Actors Guild strike.
