Josh Radnor knew that not everyone would agree with the ending of How I Met Your Mother.
How I Met Your Mother is probably one of the most iconic American sitcoms of all time. From absurd comedies to teaching philosophies about love and life, Josh Radnor’s Ted Mosby went on a journey of 10 years and he took the audience with him wherever he went.
Thus, it was quite a shocking scene when Ted Mosby talked about how his wife Tracy had fallen sick. Through thick and thin, Mosby stayed with Tracy and loved her even after her end. Well, Radnor revealed that he already knew the ending since the start of the show.
The Ending of How I Met Your Mother Was Difficult
In the first episode, Ted’s eyes lock with Robin Scherbatsky. During the episode’s end, it’s revealed that she is actually “Aunt Robin” and not the mother of Ted Mosby’s kids.
This little twist takes the audience on a journey spanning 9 seasons, multiple partners, fights, break-ups, and, the ups and downs of Ted’s life. Josh Radnor portrayed a beautiful role with his character and the world was relieved when he found Tracy Mosby, aka The Mother.
Marrying and having kids together, it is revealed during the final moments of the show that Tracy Mosby (portrayed by Cristin Milioti) becomes sick. Eventually dying from her sickness, Ted ends the story as his kids listen attentively.
When his kids tell him to go for Aunt Robin, Ted rushes and stands outside Robin Scherbatsky’s window, holding the Blue French Horn… just like he did in the first episode. The shock factor and Ted ending up with Robin drew backlash from the fans and the ending isn’t generally well-liked. However, Josh Radnor knew from the start that this was eventually going to happen.
Josh Radnor Knew From The Start
It was no surprise that the creators of How I Met Your Mother had already thought of the ending before they even began production on the series. Since the kids would grow up if they shot it continuously, they filmed the beginning and the final part of the kids first.
