Sheldon encounters an unprecedented problem while in Germany in Young Sheldon season 7, which was set up four years ago. Picking up almost right where the Young Sheldon season 6 finale left off, the final year of The Big Bang Theory continues to separate the Coopers, with Mary and the boy genius still outside of the country. While Missy keeps the household organized and running and Georgie worries about providing for Mandy and Baby Cece’s future, their brother is experiencing a new problem while doing his study abroad program in Germany — one that he clearly didn’t expect.
Despite some inconsistencies in the finer details, Sheldon’s stint in Germany is a way to preserve The Big Bang Theory‘s canon. Sheldon didn’t reveal much about his actual scientific pursuits in Germany, but based on Young Sheldon, his experience would be his stepping stone towards getting accepted at Caltech for post-graduate studies. It will work, but in the meantime, Sheldon is struggling with his summer excursion after realizing how far behind he is compared to everyone else in class, a problem that was set up all the way back in Young Sheldon season 3.

Mary Forced Sheldon To Go To East Texas Tech For College
Young Sheldon season 3 ended with Sheldon accidentally discovering that he was accepted to multiple Ivy League universities including Caltech. Despite being thrilled at the opportunities presented to his son, Mary decided to hide his acceptance letters not only from her son but also from George. She insisted that Sheldon was still too young to be sent to an out-of-state school like Caltech and Princeton, but in reality, she just didn’t want to let her go. Ultimately, they chose to send him to East Texas Tech, which is the root of his Germany problem four years later.
In Young Sheldon season 7, episode 2, “A Roulette Wheel and a Piano Playing Dog,” Sheldon realizes that he isn’t as smart as he thinks he is, and it’s primarily because he didn’t get the best educational tools, so he can reach his full potential. Despite Dr. Linkletter and Dr. Sturgis’ help at East Texas Tech, he would have been better prepared to perform internationally had he been sent to a more prestigious school such as the Ivy League institutions that were recruiting him just as he was about to graduate from high school in Young Sheldon season 3.
Why Young Sheldon Couldn’t Send Sheldon To An Ivy League
Storytelling-wise, Young Sheldon couldn’t afford to send Sheldon out of state in season 3. On the heels of The Big Bang Theory’s ending, it was still establishing itself as the next CBS premier comedy, and sporadically featuring its lead character just wouldn’t make sense. By sending him to East Texas Tech, Sheldon was still able to come back home almost every day, allowing him to be incorporated into what was going on at the Cooper household. Granted that this has become a rarity in later seasons, this set-up was still the best compromise for Young Sheldon‘s sake by then.
