Martin Sheen’s Four Children Follow in His Footsteps – One of Them Also Inherited His Vices

Although a multi-award-winning actor, Martin Sheen’s life was filled with a series of ups and downs, sadly, one of his four children experienced similar struggles.

Born Ramon Antonio Gerardo Esteves on August 3, 1940, the actor came from humble beginnings before becoming a household name. Determined to pursue his dreams, Esteves left for New York in his 20s and worked menial jobs while auditioning for roles.

He decided to adopt the stage name Martin Sheen, which he carried until making a name in the entertainment industry. Sheen is a multi-award-winning actor with several acting credits to his name. He also has four children who followed in his footsteps in show business.

SHEEN’S VICES AFFECTS HIS MARRIAGE

Sheen married Janet Templeton, an actress known for “Rated X,” “The Way,” and “Beverly Hills Brats” on December 23, 1961. Together, they withstood the test of time and overcame challenges as husband and wife.

Admittedly, their marriage became challenging to hold on to as Sheen battled alcoholism. “It wasn’t very endearing. I was a known alcoholic and obviously troubled in a lot of areas,” he recalled. However, Sheen’s wife never gave up on him and always called him out for his vices. The actor said:

“I was fortunate enough to marry the scariest woman I’d ever met. She did not know how to lie. It was impossible. For me, the truth was a sometimes thing. For her, it was eternity. She would always call me out.”

Eventually, Martin sought help from Alcoholics Anonymous and turned to the Catholic Church. He has since been sober and spending the happiest days of his life with his wife and grown children, Emilio, Ramon, Charlie, and Renee.

Martin and Janet’s children followed in their footsteps in the entertainment industry. Although being related to a famous actor was a bonus, their natural skills in their craft brought them great careers.

EMILIO’S CAREER

Martin’s firstborn, Emilio, is an actor, producer, director, and screenwriter. Emilio built his acting career in small theater productions and became part of the 1980s “Brat Pack,” alongside Rob Lowe, Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall, Molly Ringwald, and more.

In 1992, he starred in Disney’s “The Mighty Ducks” and reprised his role in the two sequels as well as “Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.” Emilio also found success behind the screen when he first wrote and directed “Men at Work,” which he also starred in.

His other known directing stints include “CSI: New York,” “Cold Case,” “The Guardian,” and “The Way,” among many others. Like some of his siblings, Emilio did not use a stage name in the industry and maintained his real last name, Estevez.

Although he has several known productions, the 2006 film “Bobby” mainly brought Emilio recognition. He wrote, directed, and starred in the Robert F. Kennedy-based movie.

“Bobby” had a significant impact on its viewers that the film received a seven-minute standing ovation during its Venice Film Festival premiere.

Behind the scenes, Emilio is a doting father to two children, daughter Paloma and son Taylor, who he shares with model Carey Salley. Emilio was also married to Paula Abdul but divorced her after two years.
