Alberta’s film and television industry is set for a busy summer, with a high-profile film starring Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence and a miniseries about JonBenet Ramsey among projects set to go into production in the coming months.

Lawrence, who has been nominated for four Oscars and won in 2013 for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, will star in Lynne Ramsay’s Die, My Love.

The Internet Movie Database describes the film as a comedy, drama and thriller about a mother struggling with mental illness in a “forgotten rural area.” It is based on the 2012 novel of the same name by Argentine writer Ariana Harwicz. Ramsay is a critically acclaimed Scottish director whose credits include 1999’s Ratcatcher, 2002’s Morvern Callar, 2011’s We Need to Talk About Kevin, and 2017’s You Were Never Really Here. Filming is expected to begin in July.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the JonBenet Ramsey miniseries is being developed by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios and will have the same production house as Yellowstone and its spinoffs. The report names writer-director Richard LaGravenese as executive producer.

The series is expected to begin filming in August.

July will also see the return of My Life with the Walter Boys to Alberta. The family drama, which was shot for Netflix, will film its second season in Alberta. Production is currently underway on Kurt Sutter’s Western series The Abandons, also for Netflix. That project is expected to wrap in October. Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey and X-Files’ Gillian Anderson play two mothers “caught in a bloody struggle.”

The cast also includes Nick Robinson, Diana Silvers, Lucas Till, Lamar Johnson, Aisling Franciosi, Natalia del Riego and Patton Oswald.
