Fifty Shades Darker is one of the most anticipated movies of 2017. The sequel to Fifty Shades of Gray (2015) has indeed made many people curious.
The reason is that fans want to know whether the erotic love relationship of Anastasia Steele and Christian Gray will continue or not. Still directed by James Foley, the sequel will explore a side of Christian Gray that has never been seen before.
The film again stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, who play Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey.
But the addition of three new characters played by Eric Johnson, Bella Heathcote and Kim Basinger will make Ana and Christian’s relationship feel like a roller coaster. Not to mention John Schwartzman’s cinematography will ruin the audience’s eyes.

The untold dark side of Christianity
Speaking of movie trailers, Fifty Shades Darker (2017) will reveal another side of Christian Grey. This makes me very excited, because Christian Gray’s appearance is full of mystery and makes me curious.
However, expectations and reality sometimes do not match, because after watching this James Foley movie, I did not find another side of Christian Gray.
It’s not a complete lie, the prologue tells a brief story about Christian’s childhood, which turned out to be spent in an abusive household.
Even Christian’s former followers, starting with the character that made him what he is today. Unfortunately, none of their stories were developed, although this storyline may have reinforced Christian’s change in attitude.
In this movie, the character Christian Gray seems to have lost his way, he can be submissive or dominant in front of Ana. As Ana said, Christian’s feelings for her are more about control.
On the other hand, Ana’s character actually seems more dominant and brave. This change does not come with a good reason, how is Anastasia Steele’s appearance different from other Christian submissives?
Many important characters are like sweeteners
I previously cited that Fifty Shades Darker (2017) is about two previously unseen Christian ex-subs.
They are Mrs. Robinson aka Elena Lincoln, played by Kim Basinger and Leila Williams, played by Bella Heathcote. As for acting, I won’t comment because they both look amazing.
In fact, they should have been the main attraction in this movie. However, in reality, these two important characters are treated like sweeteners.
There’s a solid backstory, unfortunately their story isn’t explored perfectly. What makes Leila return to Christian? Is he truly unhappy with his marriage or is he just looking for a way out?
So why does Elena Lincoln still want Christian and what caused their relationship to end? So why did Christian take Ana to Elena Lincoln’s beauty salon? This question mark should have made the conflict between Anastasia and Christian even more tense.
Another character that was unexpectedly eliminated was Jack Hyde, played by Eric Johnson. Although he appears quite charming, Jack’s scandal with his five assistants is rarely discovered and seems like a simple matter.
Although if you look closely, the character of Jack is just as mysterious as Christian and what makes him interested in Ana is not explored much. The humorous impression shown in the character Christian is still stronger than the other characters.
Filming and scoring were a lot of fun
Talking about cinematography, Fifty Shades Darker (2017) brings quite interesting images to me. Different from the first film, I could feel the cinematographer’s attempt to create a darker impression. Taking interesting color themes, they only focus on original lighting.
For example, make the main light come from just one lamp, leaving other parts of the room darker. But this also makes it easier to convey emotions to the audience.
This natural light makes the viewer’s eyes more focused and the different perspectives from the camera succeed in creating beautiful and memorable images.
But the best part of this movie is the soundtrack sung by Taylor Swift and Zayn Malik. To me, the song called “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” feels tied to the ups and downs of Christian and Ana’s love story.
The soundtrack to Fifty Shades Darker (2017) was produced by Republic Records and was released on February 10, 2017. The album includes 19 songs performed by famous artists, from Halsey to Zia to Nick. Jonas and Nicki Minaj.
Although a bit disappointing, Fifty Shades Darker (2017) is a very suitable movie for married couples to watch. Furthermore, the chemistry between Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan is unmatched. The different conflicts presented are also very interesting and the movie is really fun to watch.
