What other role is Daniel Davis known for besides playing Niles in ‘The Nanny?’

Daniel Davis is arguably most famous for his role as butler Niles on the hit ’90s sitcom The Nanny. He plays the fast-talking, wisecracking butler who casually boasts of an aggressive relationship with his boss’s business partner, C.C. Babcock. The two continued to develop a romantic relationship later in the television series. But what has Davis done outside of The Nanny, and what has he been up to since the final episode aired in 1999?

Before ‘The Nanny,’ Davis starred in the short-lived soap opera ‘Texas’
Davis got her big break when she starred opposite Beverlee McKinsey as Eliot Carrington – a character believed to have died in Texas, a spin-off of Another World. Texas only played for two seasons (from 1980 to 1981). Even though the show wasn’t on the air long, Davis played a pretty big role, so it was enough proof that he could get his foot in the door in Tinseltown.

After Texas, Davis appeared in many other television shows – usually for an episode or two – including The A-Team, Cagney & Lacey, Remington Steel, Cheers, and more. After a few one-off appearances in various sitcoms and drama series – and the occasional TV movie – Davis landed the lead role in The Nanny. The Nanny ran from 1993 to 1999, during which time Davis appeared in several other productions.

Davis starred in 1997’s Remember WENN, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, Adventures from the 1996 Book of Virtues, and more. However, most of his time is devoted to the global phenomenon that is The Nanny.

Davis has also appeared on stage – taking on the role of King Lear at the New Jersey Shakespeare Theater under the direction of Bonnie J. Monte in 2008. Davis is an established stage actor who has appeared in many Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, including The Tragedy of Richard III, Amadeus, Wrong Mountain, and more.

He recently starred in the 2016 Broadway revival of Noises Off as Selsdon Mowbray. Although he appears frequently on TV, over the past two decades Davis has become widely recognized for his theater work.
