A new House of the Dragon animation imagines Aegon, Sunfyre, and Dreamfyre in season 2. An adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s Fire and Blood, the show features a civil war between members of House Targaryen. Season 1 saw Aegon crowned as the King of Westeros, but his older half-sister Rhaenyra is also vying for the throne. The ensuing war is likely to bring dragons onto the battlefield for the first time in generations.
Ahead of House of the Dragon season 2, Reddit user unity5games put together an animation that features Aegon riding on the back of his dragon, Sunfyre. Check it out below:
The animation features a detailed Aegon approaching a waiting and shining Sunfyre, before the two take to the sky together. Dreamfyre joins them, alongside the enormous Vhagar, as they fly to the Red Keep, where Aegon walks to the Iron Throne and looks back to greet the waiting crowd.
The Dragons Will Play A Bigger Role In Season 2
Much like in the animation, season 2 is expected to bring in more dragons than season 1 could offer. The House of the Dragon season 1 ending featured the death of Lucerys at the hands of Aemond and Vhagar. While Aemond had no intentions of killing the young herald, it was impossible for him to control his bloodthirsty dragon. Lucerys and his dragon, Arrax, were killed, leaving Rhaenyra desperate to avenge her beloved son.
Even if the rogue actions of Vhagar scare Aemond away from riding her, the death of Lucerys means that the Blacks will be turning to their own dragons. In an effort to escalate the situation, Daemon is already preparing to increase the amount of dragons that the Blacks control. He is collecting eggs and wild dragons, which could be an indication that he is ready to prepare new riders for the fight.
Aegon’s Sunfyre was little more than a cameo in season 1, but he will need to use the dragon to defend his throne going forward. Helaena’s Dreamfyre will also need to defend King’s Landing if Syrax and Caraxes reach mainland Westeros. House of the Dragon season 2 will be filled with dragons, and it is the Targaryens and the people of Westeros who will pay the price as the civil war escalates.
