Deep Water TEASER: Ben Affleck is pushed to the brink by Ana de Armas as loveless couple tear up the marital rulebook… but infidelity soon leads to murder, mystery and mayhem

The film that sparked a torrid off-screen romance will soon be available on Amazon Prime, and an exclusive new trailer gives some insight into the highly charged sexual chemistry shared by its two principal cast-members.

Premiering in the United Kingdom on March 18, erotic thriller Deep Water finds Ben Affleck and relative newcomer Ana de Armas star as Vic and Melinda Van Allen, an affluent New Orleans couple whose marriage is unravelling as a consequence of deep rooted jealousy, paranoia and lust.

And the latest preview to be unveiled ahead of its official release finds the couple caught between deep reflection over the state of their fractured relationship and a sticky web of voyeurism, infidelity and, ultimately, murder.

‘Why are you the only man who wants to stay with me?’ Melinda asks her husband as the trailer opens, and his monosyllabic response – both impassive and ambiguous – becomes clear as it slowly progresses.

The flighty wife is seen tearing up the matrimonial rulebook by openly seducing other, notably younger, men in front of her husband – a sobering fact that isn’t on his concerned group of friends.  A steamy pool scene shows Anna’s character seducing Richard Chase – played by Jacob Elordi.

But it’s a rulebook they dismissed long ago, with the loveless couple having reached an unconventional agreement whereby she is allowed to entertain other lovers as long as she does not end the marriage and unravel their otherwise comfortable domestic existence.

Even the couple’s young daughter – the glue that keeps them together – is aware of her mother’s apparent attachment to other men.

‘Why is mummy so different around other people?’ she asks her father, but while Vic knows the answer it remains hidden from the inquisitive child.

Inevitably he is riven with jealousy and as their mutual provocations and mind games escalate, things quickly turn into a deadly game of cat and mouse as Melinda’s extra-marital lovers start to go missing.

Concern: Ana's fecklessness isn't lost on Vic's friends, who urge him to end the marriage

Vic becomes fascinated with the unsolved murder of one of Melinda’s former lovers, Malcolm McRae, and, in order to successfully drive away her current fling, takes credit for the killing.

Affleck and de Armas met on the set of the film in 2019 and promptly began a whirlwind romance, though they split in January last year.

The sexy thriller is based on the 1957 novel by Patricia Highsmith – whose other titles include The Talented Mr. Ripley and Strangers On A Train.

The release of the movie has been hit with delays, most of which had been blamed on the pandemic.

It was originally meant to premiere in November 2020, but then was pushed back to August 2021 and then again to January this year.

During this time, the lead stars Ben and Ana had already called time on their brief relationship.

Ben has since moved on with his former fiancée Jennifer Lopez.

The actor has not had the best track record when it comes to mixing movies with his personal life.

Gigli – the 2003 American romantic comedy that starred Ben and Jen – was a box office bomb and got critically mauled upon release.

The film is scheduled to be released on Hulu in the US and on Prime Video in the UK on March 18, 2022.
