‘Full House’ star Candace Cameron Bure (DJ Tanner) talks casting, filming and release date details for ‘Fuller House.’
Full House – Cast Reunion
Fuller House continues to speed ahead at a rapid pace; the cast is getting bigger and more of the plot is being revealed as we near closer and closer to the reboot’s debut.
When the show was officially acquired by Netflix, there was a lot of speculation regarding the official synopsis. When might the show air? Which members of the old cast would return? Did Steve die? We now have a bit of insight into those questions.
Candace Cameron Bure (who plays D.J. Tanner) spoke in length in a recent interview about some of the plot and casting details of Fuller House:
“It took a long time for all the puzzle pieces to fit together and work out, because it had to be right for everyone—not just for the actors and the producers, but also with the network and the ownership of the original show. We start shooting this summer. It’ll be out in 2016 on Netflix and I’m hearing January, so hopefully people won’t have to wait long! Very early next year.”
“The reason the show is called Fuller House is because D.J.’s married name is ‘Fuller.’ She married Tommy Fuller, and he’s the one that passed away, so she’s left to raise three boys. She’s a little overwhelmed and newly pregnant when we first see her, so knowing she has a baby on the way and these two boys, she asks her sister and best friend to come move in and help her raise her kids.”
“They’re still talking to everyone but I’m pretty sure that everyone will come back in some way. The whole cast has been very supportive and wants to come back in some way or another. Whether it’s in the first episode, making an appearance in an additional episode, or just being on set, everyone’s excited.”
“We’re all a really close bunch. I’m really close with Andrea Barber, Lori Loughlin, Bob Saget, and John Stamos. I see Jodie not as often, but occasionally at parties, and every now and again I’ll see Mary-Kate or Ashley. We’re a really tight group.”
Full House sequel series being developed by Netflix
For starters, there is no official release date for Fuller House (Netflix has said sometime in 2016); though Bure is hearing January. That date isn’t an impossibility, but it’s important to keep in mind that the series has not started filming, and the actors don’t yet have a script. It is cool, however, to hear a little bit about the plot.
It seems that Fuller House will really be living up to its title, considering the additional characters being added, and if more members of the old cast are included, it should only make for a more entertaining experience. Oh, and just to clarify for those wondering: Bure confirms that “Steve did not die,” and even hints that his character could “pop in for a visit.”
But speaking of old cast members, it is interesting see Bure mention that the whole cast wants to come back at some point. As it stands right now, this is the cast (as listed on IMDB):

Both Dave Coulier and Bob Saget are listed as being cast in “unknown episodes.”
Bure was later asked in the interview about the return of the Olsen Twins (the only two who didn’t show up to the 25th anniversary Full House event) and said this:
“I haven’t talked to them about it, but I know the network’s talking with them. They’re talking! So that’s a good sign.”
This usually wouldn’t seem like surprising news; of course the Olsen Twins would make an appearance in Fuller House, right? Well, there seemed to be a bit of confusion about that around the time John Stamos made an announcement about the sequel on Jimmy Kimmel that followed with an Olsen Twin’s WWD interview.
Bure’s interview wasn’t the only Fuller House related news; Dave Coulier took to his Instagram to say that he will be on the Full House reunion and Mark Cendrowski will be directing.

Fuller House doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of slowing down (if anything, they’re speeding up) and the show may just live up to the expectations and honor the first show in a family-friendly way. Of course, with sequels to popular TV programs (especially ones airing over a decade later on a platform that didn’t exist in the time of the original), it isn’t a walk in the park putting the pieces together. And though Fuller House has dealt with its fair share of complications thus far, the road to its 2016 release looks like a relatively clear one, with the payoff at the end being a successful sequel.
But plot details aside, a big thing that fans will be looking forward to is the reunion of old characters and how they blend with the new storyline—which appears to be hectic in its own right and might only have room for previous cast members to make cameos rather than be regulars on the show. Only will time tell and until more casting becomes official, we’ll have to wait and see.
