Truth be told, 2 Broke Girls had somewhat of an uneven first season (call me old school, but I’m not a big believer in crude humor). With that said, the show wouldn’t be the hit it is without breakout stars Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs. They’re intriguing, smart, and downright hilarious–and you want more of them.

Kat Dennings

Kat Dennings, gorgeous, curvaceous, and fierce, has starred in hit films like The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, and she had an infamous appearance as a 13-year-old bat-mitzvah brat on Sex and the City. (See here!)

I caught up with the 26-year-old from Bryn Mawr, Penn., at the CBS Party this summer to talk all about those TV cupcakes, the co-star she is dating, and those striking red lips just in time for the premiere tonight.

But first…

Where we left off on 2 Broke Girls: On the romance front, Johnny (Nick Zano) shows up at the diner and tells Max he is moving to Manhattan and getting married, but not to his most recent girlfriend–to someone else altogether new. (Jeez, way to stick a knife in a girl’s heart.) On the career front, Max and Caroline (Behrs) decide to sneak into the Metropolitan Museum of Art ball where Martha Stewart is scheduled to be a guest. In the ladies’ room, they encounter Stewart and convince her to try their beer-batter-maple-bacon-spring-break cupcake. Will it be the big breakthrough they’ve been waiting for? And might there still be something left with Johnny and Max?

Glamour: First things first–how do those cupcakes on the show really taste?

Kat Dennings: They’re actually really good! They have an amazing girl named Amber who bakes the cupcakes, and periodically I will frost them in real time. Anytime you see me piping a cupcake, I’m doing it. Amber taught me! But they are amazing! From time to time, when my blood-sugar feels low, I’ll just take a swipe of icing.

Glamour: Do you have a favorite cupcake place in L.A.?

Kat: Sprinkles! Magnolia [Bakery] is super delicious, but it’s heavier. Sprinkles is light, and I can eat 25 cupcakes and be OK.

Glamour: I read that when you first decided to pursue a career in acting, your parents said it was the worst idea ever.

Kat: It IS the worst idea ever! Ha!

Glamour: And now what do they say? Thank God you didn’t listen to us?

Kat: Oh, now they are over the moon! I was one of those kids where I clearly wasn’t going to be in school much longer, you know what I mean? I’m not a kid who can learn that way. I was a very unique child. I think they knew I belonged in the arts. I got so lucky. My dad is a biochemist, but he actually wanted to be a painter when he was younger, so he had it in his blood. And my mom is a poet, so they all had their own secret art.
